Correction
In a March 21 edition, The River Reporter incorrectly
stated that a spokesman for the Society of St. John in Shohola disagreed
with Bishop Timlin of Scranton regarding the society’s debt. The
amount given by the bishop included the $2.9 million mortgage. Auxiliary
Bishop John Dougherty, who is the financial overseer for the society,
said the society’s current debt is $500,000, excluding their mortgage.
The article also misstated a comment from a spokesman
for the society, Father Dominic O’Connor. O’Connor denies that the
board resignations were only about money but were also about disagreements
over certain liturgical practices followed by the society.
