Cochecton concerned about new entrance to high
school

LAKE HUNTINGTON — The entrance road from County
Road 113 into the new Sullivan West High School site has several
problems that concern the Cochecton Town Board.
Turner Construction, consultants to the Sullivan
West School District, never consulted the town engineers about certain
features of the entrance road, said town supervisor Sal Indelicato
at the town meeting on Wednesday, March 13.
“There are problems with visibility and sight distance,
problems with grading, there is not cul-de-sac at the end of the
road as town ordinances require and there are no sidewalks,” Indelicato
said.
Highway Superintendent Brian DuBois mentioned that
it would be difficult getting snow out of the driveway.
The town has agreed to take over maintenance of
the roadway once the school is opened.
“They can’t just drop the road on us without talking
to us,” Indelicato said. “I hope they do better if they’re going
to use Crestwood Road as an emergency exit road.”
Indelicato said that the town engineer told him
Crestwood Road is in need of repair in its present condition, and
would take extensive work if the school is going to use it as an
emergency road.
“We submitted plans to the town when we sought
a permit,” said Scott Bridie, unit manager for Turner. “I am confused
about what they mean. We did everything we were supposed to do,”
he said.
