FRANKLIN J. BEBENSEE

HAWLEY —Franklin J. Bebensee of Hawley, a retired deliveryman for Smergut Beer Distributors and lifelong area resident, died Thursday, March 14, 2002 at home. He was 85.

Son of the late John and Anna Wimfimer Bebensee, he was born in Hawley.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hawley.

Survivors include his wife, June H. Simmons Bebensee; two daughters, Sue Ann Barnett of Glenside and Cheryl Austin of Jacksonville, FL; two granddaughters; nieces and nephews.

Private services were held at the convenience of the family. Cremation took place at the H.G. Smith Crematory in Stroudsburg.

THOMAS P. DUNLEAVY

NARROWSBURG — Thomas Patrick Dunleavy of Narrowsburg, former owner of Dunleavy’s Tavern in Manhattan and a part-time local area resident since 1989, died Friday, March 8, 2002 at home in Narrowsburg. He was 69.

Son of the late John and Margaret Lavin Dunleavy, he was born October 28, 1932 in Manhattan.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, serving on the USS Bennington.

Survivors include his wife, Denise McDermott Dunleavy; two daughters, Megan Dermot Dunleavy of Los Angeles, CA and Cristin Margaret Dunleavy of New York City; a sister, Sister Margaret Mary of Mary Mount Convent in Tarrytown;  nieces and nephews.

A memorial service and funeral Mass was offered at Holy Cross Church in New York City.

DR. EDWARD HAMRE

CALLICOON — Dr. Edward Hamre of Callicoon, a retired medical doctor on staff at the Grover M. Hermann Division of Community General Hospital in Callicoon from 1967 to 1983, and a 34-year area resident, died Sunday, March 10, 2002 at the Wolfe family home on Route 97 in Narrowsburg where he was a resident for the past several years. He was 90.

Son of the late Edward John Larsen and Janna Karoline Karlson Hamre, he was born June 26, 1911 in Bergen, Norway.

He was a graduate of the University of Oslo in Norway and served his internship at Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville. He was a member of the Sons of Norway International.

Survivors include a son, Jan of Moen, Norway; a daughter, Eli Nilsen of Grimstad, Norway; three grandsons, Robert and Frank Nilsen and Steiner Hamre, all of Norway; his devoted caretaker, Gerda Wolfe of Narrowsburg; and his business manager, Joan Sykes of Callicoon.

Cremation took place at the Twin Tiers Crematory in Endicott.

HEIDI ANN HOLWAY

ELDRED — Heidi Ann Holway of Eldred, a self-employed photographer, died Thursday, March 7, 2002 in Barryville. She was 39.

Daughter of Oscar Holway and Barbara Desilets, she was born January 28, 1963 in St. Petersburg, FL.

She was a graduate of Chaska High School in Chaska, MN and attended Colorado Institute of Art in Denver. Survivors include her father and stepmother, Oscar and Ida Holway of Blue Mound, KA; and a sister, Stephanie Guenther of Nevada, MO.

She was predeceased by a brother, Oscar.

A memorial service was held at the Montoza Cemetery in Eldred. Cremation took place at Twin Tiers Crematory in Endicott.

ALFRED RAYMOND KEESLER

MONTICELLO — Alfred Raymond Keesler, formerly of Callicoon, a retired truck driver for Sherwood Egg Farms of Galilee, PA and a lifelong area resident, died Wednesday, March 13, 2002 at Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 67.

Son of Floyd and Mary Drum Keesler, he was born August 14, 1934 in Cochecton.

He was a member of the Cochecton Fire Dept. and the Lake Huntington Presbyterian Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

Survivors include a daughter, Jean Marie Cunningham of White Mills, PA; two sons, Richard of Claryville and Alfred of Japan; a sister, Phyllis Hull of Honesdale, PA; nieces and nephews.

Services were held at Rasmussen Sons Inc. Funeral Home in Narrowsburg. The Rev. Paul Ruter officiated. Burial was in Glen Cove Cemetery in Narrowsburg.

GARY P. KLINE

HONESDALE — Gary P. Kline of Honesdale, a salesman for the C.E.S. Gas Co. in Monticello, NY, died Friday, March 15, 2002 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale. He was 60.

Son of the late Roland and Elizabeth Landers Kline, he was born in Honesdale.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Honesdale where he taught Sunday School. He was a member of Habitat for Humanity.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Holgate Kline; a daughter, Karen P. of Honesdale; two sisters, Betty Lord of Cherry Ridge and Cathy DeLaureiutis of St. Lucie, FL; nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers, John and Roland.

Services were held at Teeters’ East Chapel in Hawley.  Burial was in Arlington Cemetery in Lakeville.

TERESA A. KRANTZ

HONESDALE — Teresa A. Krantz of Honesdale died unexpectedly Tuesday, March 12, 2002 at the Wayne Memorial Hospital Emergency Room. She was 85.

Daughter and last surviving member of the Albert J. and Julia Agnes Schmitt Kittner, Jr. family, she was born July 9, 1916 in Waterbury, CT. She was the widow of Lester Arthur Krantz, who died in February, 2002.

She had many jobs through the years in White Mills, Callicoon, NY and Liberty, NY.

Survivors include a son, Robert L. and wife Diane of Golden, CO; three grandchildren, Tamme Cooper of Broomfield, CO, Robin Reynolds of Lafayette, CO and Timothy Krantz of Aurora, CO; six great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by three brothers, Edward, Herman and Ernest; and three sisters, Catherine Smith, infants Barbara and Elizabeth; and a great-grandson, Brian Cooper.

Services were held at the Hessling Funeral Home in Honesdale. The Rev. Robert Shrom, pastor Hospice St. John, officiated. Burial was in Indian Orchard Cemetery in Texas Twp.

DOUGLAS B. MILDNER

BETHEL — Douglas B. Mildner of Bethel, an accountant and manager of Phoenix Tax Service in Monticello and a lifelong area resident, died Thursday, March 14, 2002 in St. Luke’s Hospital in New York City. He was 41.

He was the son of Joan Barsky of Atlantic City, NJ, and the late Alvin Mildner; grandson of the late Jack and Victory Barsky of South Fallsburg and Ben and Ida Mildner of Woodridge.

He was a member of the Monticello Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons.

Also surviving are his wife, Brenda Mills-Mildner, at home; three sons, Brandon of Liberty, Michael Mills of Hawaii and Ryan Mills of Florida; a daughter, Lisa Mills of Florida; a brother, Jeffrey and wife Suzanne Mildner of Ellingham, WA; and two nieces.

Services were held at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home, Inc. in Monticello. Rabbi Irwin Tanenbaum officiated. Burial was in the Temple Sholom Cemetery in Monticello.

MARIA RALLIS

MILANVILLE — Maria Rallis of Milanville, a homemaker and area resident since 1987, died Saturday, March 16, 2002 at Marion Community Hospital in Carbondale, PA. She was 75.

Daughter of Vincent and Filomena Sarcinella, she was born September 8, 1926 in New York, NY. She was the widow of Peter Rallis, who died in 1994.

She was a member of the Calkins Labor Grange.

Survivors include a son, Theodore of Mamaroneck, NY; five sisters, Antonitte Delorenzo of Brooklyn, Louise D’Onofrio of Brooklyn, Josephine Amato of Toms River, NJ, Rose Russo of Maybrook, NY and Anna Gerladis of Totowa, NJ; a brother, James Sarcinella of San Diego, CA; nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Margaret Leone and Regina Russo.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Francis Xavier Church in Narrowsburg, NY. The Rev. Thomas Jones officiated. Burial was in Calkins Cemetery in Milanville.

LILLIAN T. SMITH

NARROWSBURG — Lillian T. Smith of Narrowsburg, a retired clerk for Keenan’s Pharmacy and an area resident since 1958, died Sunday, March 17, 2002 at home. She was 87.

Daughter of Alfred A. Jr. and Jane Tinsley Smith, she was born April 11, 1914 in Brooklyn.

She was a member of St. Francis Roman Catholic Church and its Altar and Rosary Society and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Court Rafael.

Survivors include two nephews, Alfred A. Smith III and wife Linda of Narrowsburg, and Wayne Smith and wife Theresa of Staten Island; a niece, Rosemary Brown and husband Tom of Staten Island; a great-niece, Christina Butler and husband Timothy; a great-nephew, Alfred A. Smith IV and wife Maria; two great-great nephews and one great- great niece.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Francis Xavier Church in Narrowsburg. The Rev. Thomas Jones officiated. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
