WILBURTA C. DEXTER
NARROWSBURG — Wilburta C. Dexter of Narrowsburg,
a homemaker and lifelong area resident, died Wednesday, February
27, 2002 at home. She was 93.
Daughter of Wilbur and Isabel Bullivant Cornwell,
she was in Tylertown. She was the widow of Ralph Dexter who died
in May, 2001.
She was a graduate of Davis Elkins College in Elkins,
WV.
She was a member of the Lake Huntington Presbyterian
Church and its Ladies Aid Society; the Town of Cochecton Democratic
Club, the Women’s Club of Cochecton and the Cochecton Preservation
Society.
Survivors include two sons, James of Herkimer and
William and wife Jennie of Lava; two daughters, Barbara Myer and
husband Clifford of Milford, PA and Doris Roda and husband Warren
of Ottisville; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nieces
and nephews.
She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Eileen,
and a daughter-in-law, Elsie.
Services were held at the Lake Huntington Presbyterian
Church in Lake Huntington. The Rev. Jacob Wielhouwer officiated.
Burial was in Overlook Cemetery in Damascus.

JOEL CARNEL
YOUNGSVILLE — Joel Carnel of Youngsville, a former
president and director of Inter-County Cooperative, died Friday,
March 1, 2002 at Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He
was 78.
He was born in Astrina, Poland.
He was the only member of his family of seven sisters
and his parents to have survived Auschwitz and Birkenau. He came
to America in 1949 and became an important agriculturalist and builder.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel; two daughters,
Barbara Winston and Rozalyn Weiss; five grandchildren, Gordon, Randall,
Stephanie, Devon and Brandon and great-grandchild, Zachary.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Dr. Shirley Carnel
of Aspen, CO who died in 1998.
Graveside services were held in the Ahavath Israel
Cemetery in Liberty. Rabbi Marvin Goldman officiated.
CHARLES E. EGGERS, SR.
GREELEY — Charles E. Eggers, Sr. of Greeley, a former
chauffeur at Picatinny Arsenal, NJ, formerly of Lake Hopatcong,
NJ and a 10-year area resident, died Monday, February 25, 2002 at
home. He was 78.
Son of the late Charles Eggers and Frances Birchfield
Eggers, he was born in Whittaker, WV.
He was an Army veteran of World War II and Korea,
a member of the American Legion and VFW in Franklin, NJ.
Survivors include his wife, Marion Eggers of Greeley;
two sons, Charles of Budd Lake, NJ and David of Rockaway, NJ; a
daughter, Linda Grassia of Byram Twp., NJ; two brothers, Wilbert
and Delbert of Oak Hill, OH; two sisters, Ruth House of oak Hill,
OH and Della Lipscomb of Hurricane, WV; and four grandchildren.
Services were held at Teeters’ East Chapel in Hawley.
The Rev. Martin L. Cox, Jr., Pastor of the Hawley United Methodist
Church, officiated.
JOHN PAUL HUDSON
BETHANY — John Paul Hudson of Bethany, a long time
employee of Time, Inc/Time-Warner Inc. in New York City, and a 15-year
area resident, died unexpectedly Wednesday, February 20, 2002 at
home. He was 72.
He was born in Rockport, MO.
He was a member of Christian Science Society in
Hawley, a member of the Screen Actors Guild and was active in Way
Off Broadway.
Survivors include a sister, Frieda Hudson Voss of
Fairway, KS and a niece, Pamela Van Saun of Lake Quivera, KS.
Services will be scheduled in the future.

LESTER ARTHUR KRANTZ
HONESDALE — Lester Arthur Krantz of Honesdale, a
former farmer and a 22-year employee of Bailey’s Unfinished Furniture
Factory, died Thursday, February 28, 2002 at home. He was 94.
Son of the late Arthur F. Krantz and Katherine Krantz,
he was born in Kenoza Lake, NY on the family farm.
He worked on the family farm, part-time for Sullivan
County Highway Dept., the Lake Jefferson Dam and at Bailey’s until
he retired in 1972.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Teresa;
a son, Robert Lester and wife Diane of Golden, CO; a sister, Marion
K. Robisch of Jeffersonville, NY; three grandchildren, Timothy A.
of Aurora, CO, Tammie L. Cooper of Bloomfield, CO and Robin T. Reynolds
of Lafayette, CO; and six great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy H. Smith;
and a great-grandson, Brian S. Cooper.
Services were held at the Hessling Funeral Home
in Honesdale. The Rev. Robert Schrom officiated. Burial was in Indian
Orchard Cemetery in Texas Twp.

ROBERT JAMES MCGINNIS
HAWLEY — Robert James McGinnis of Hawley, formerly
of Honesdale, a retired PP&L employee, died Monday, February
25, 2002 in Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale. He was 84.
Son of the late Thomas and Martha Weiser McGinnis,
he was born in Honesdale.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during
World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Wilson, Kelch
Post 311 in Hawley, VFW Post 5823, Robert Drake Memorial in Hawley;
Honesdale Golf Club and Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church in
Hawley.
Survivors include his wife, Ellen Sartori McGinnis;
two daughters, Peggy Evans of Paupack and Marcy Webb of Laury’s
Station; three sons, Robert Jr. of Hawley, Michael of Houston, TX
and Billy of Catasauqua; a brother, Charles of Honesdale; and 11
grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was offered at Queen of Peace Church
in Hawley. The Rev. William B. Healey, pastor, officiated. Burial
was in the parish cemetery.

DONALD MILLER, SR.
HONESDALE — Donald Miller, Sr. of Honesdale, a truck
operator and general contractor in Honesdale for 20 years, died
Sunday, February 24, 2002 at Wayne Woodlands Manor in Waymart. He
was 76.
Son of the late Lenace and Gwen Miller, he was born
July 19, 1925 in Waymart. He was the widower of Lois Cottell who
died in 1990.
He served in the US Marine Corps during World War
II and was a member of the United Methodist Church in Honesdale.
Survivors include a son, Donald Jr. of Murrells
Inlet, SC; two daughters, Nancy Fritche of Des Moines, IO and Donna
Cox of Casper, WY; two brothers, Lester of Indiana and Frank of
Alaska; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and nieces
and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Gordon and Russell;
and a sister, Jean Breidenstein.
Services were held at the Arthur A. Bryant funeral
Home in Honesdale. The Rev. Paul McCauley of the Central United
Methodist Church officiated. Burial will be in the spring at the
Clinton Center in Clinton Township.

LILA MILLNER
HONESDALE — Lila Millner of Honesdale, a buyer and
seller in the retail business before moving to this area, died Thursday,
February 21, 2002 at the Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale. She
was 71.
Daughter of Joseph and Sadie Millner, she was born
in Brooklyn.
A private funeral service was held.
BETTY MARIE HOEFLEIN MYERS
HONESDALE — Betty Marie Hoeflein Myers of Honesdale,
retired secretary of Student Affairs at Marywood College, died Sunday,
February 24, 2002 at Wayne Memorial Hospital. She was 77.
Daughter of the late William and Kathryn Wagner
Hoeflein, she was born June 28, 1924 in Honesdale.
She was a graduate of the Honesdale High School
class of 1942, and was a legal secretary until moving to Scranton
where she lived for 35 years, returning to Honesdale after retirement.
She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale.
She was a member of the parish’s Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration
at the Chapel.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Wayne;
a son, Bill and wife Erin of Scranton; a daughter, Joan O’Malley
of Clarks Green; a sister, Ann Box of Honesdale; four grandchildren,
Katie and Amy O’Malley and Lindsey and Sara Myers; nieces, nephews
and cousins.
She was predeceased by a sister, Doris Weniger.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St.
Mary Magdalen’s Church in Honesdale. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

FRANCES I. O’ROURKE
HONESDALE — Frances Isabelle O’Rourke of Honesdale,
a retired secretary at Farview State Correctional Institution in
Waymart, died unexpectedly Tuesday, February 26, 2002 at home. She
was 84.
Daughter of the late John and Anne Brink O’Rourke,
she was born in Wayne County.
She was a graduate of the Honesdale High School
Class of 1935, and then Wayne Commercial School in Honesdale. She
was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish and its Altar &
Rosary Society in Honesdale, and a member of the Catholic Daughters
of the Americas Court St. Martin in Honesdale.
Survivors include two cousins, Hilda O’Rourke of
Somerville, NJ and Mary O’Rourke Tackett of Flemington, NJ; and
other cousins and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered in St. Mary
Magdalen’s Church. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
MARGARET B. OSMOLSKI
BEACH LAKE — Margaret B. Osmolski of Beach Lake,
a supervisor for JC Penny Co. and an area resident since 1975, died
Thursday, February 28, 2002 at Wayne Woodlands Manor in Waymart,
PA. She was 89.
Daughter of Andrew and Elizabeth Bogdani Chervenick,
she was born in Barnesboro.
She was a member of the Tusten Senior Citizens in
Narrowsburg, NY and a member of St. Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church
in Beach Lake.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Morgan
of Reston, VA, and Carol D’Alesio of Fort Lee, NJ; a son, William
of Grantsboro, NC; two sisters, Betty Rico and Louise Catapano,
both of Long Island, NY; a brother, Emil Chervenick of Beach Lake;
three grandchildren, Lauren, Francine and Christopher; and nieces
and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Francis
Roman Catholic Church in Narrowsburg, NY. The Rev. Evan Greco officiated.
Cremation took place at Twin Tiers Crematory in Endicott, NY.

JEFFERSONVILLE — Lillian Preyers of Jeffersonville,
a retired patent attorney office stenographer in New York City and
a longtime area resident, died Monday, February 5, 2002 at the Roscoe
Community Nursing Home in Roscoe. She was 90.
Daughter of the late Edward and Natasha Osedse Jameson,
she was born in Yonkers. She was the widow of Herbert Preyers.
Cremation took place at Twin Tiers Crematory in
Endicott.

PEARL J. TRAVER
BARRYVILLE — Pearl J. Traver of Barryville, a retired
employee of the Barryville Post Office and a longtime area resident,
died Tuesday, February 26, 2002 at the Middletown Park Manor in
Middletown. She was 92.
Daughter of the late Christopher and Anna Swensen
Jensen, she was born in Milanville, PA. She was the widow of John
A. Traver Sr. who died in 1990.
She was a member of the Barryville United Methodist
Church and the United Methodist Women, both in Barryville, and the
River Chapter No. 33, Order of the Eastern Star in Port Jervis.
Survivors include a daughter, Joan M. Brown and
husband Ronald of Godeffroy; two sons, John J. Jr. and wife Louise
of Rock Hill and Michael C. and wife Leona of Eldred; a sister,
Florence Nichols of Honesdale, PA; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren;
and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother, Arthur Jensen.
Services were held at the Barryville United Methodist
Church. The Rev. Nancy Vanderhorst officiated. Burial was in Montoza
Cemetery in Barryville.

HAWLEY — Ralph F. Tscheu of Hawley, a retired security
guard at Farview State Hospital, died Thursday, February 28, 2002
in Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale. He was 66.
Son of the late Albert and Elise Schmidt Tscheu,
he was born in Philadelphia.
Survivors include two daughters, Allison Gallik
of Hawley and Donna Kranich of Oak Hill, VA; two grandsons, Mason
and Chase Gallik of Hawley and two granddaughters, Abigail and Jessica
Kranich of Oak Hill, VA.
A private service was conducted at the convenience
of the family.
