KidsAct celebrates
Valentine’s Day
By
DIANE GLYNN
GLEN SPEY — KidsAct,
a Sullivan County-based program that provides after-school care
for five elementary schools, hosted a Valentine’s Day Dinner on
Tuesday, February 12, for students and parents at the George Ross
Mackenzie Elementary School.
Fifty students at the Mackenzie Elementary School
participate in the KidsAct program on
a daily basis, and for the second year, took part in Family Night,
in which the students served their parents a Valentine’s Day Dinner.
The dinner enabled children and families to have a special evening
within the school community.
The event is one of several Kids-Act-sponsored
activities that help foster the connection between families and
school staff members. The after-school program provides a safe environment
for children of working parents, while improving positive behavior
and improving social, emotional and academic competency for elementary
school students.
This year, the program’s theme focuses on “Who
Am I,” in which children explore their heritage, their community
and their place within their family.
KidsAct staff members
Sue Clark, Lilly Blue, Bonnie Krasinski,
Susan Goodfriend and Christie and Angie Hallock
prepared the meal. Students provided decorations, with personalized
place settings, and served a three-course dinner to their parents.
