Stanford U for
Milford’s Billadello

MILFORD — Laura Nicole Billadello, the granddaughter of Joseph Billadello of Milford Township, will attend Stanford University, California, this fall under the Early Decision program.

Laura, 18, an honor student at Mary Institute Country Day School in Ladue, MO, will graduate this May, and is a National Merit Scholarship semifinalist. Her achievements include captain of Varsity Science Olympiad and the Varsity Swim Team, and editor of the school literary magazine, “Greenleaves.” She is both a thespian society and signet society member.

Laura has spent spring breaks with Habitat for Humanity in renovating and restoring homes in Hope, AR and Beattyville, KY. She enjoys backpacking, camping and mountain climbing. She earned four college credits from Cornell University for a 2001 summer program, “Oceanography of the Gulf of Maine.”

She resides with her parents, Dr. Joseph J. Billadello and Dr. Guadalupe Sanchez in Creve Coeur, MO.

She plans to pursue academic studies in field of science and biology in particular.

Her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacinto Sanchez, live in Immokalee, FL.






Local library hosts Middle East series

HONESDALE — The Wayne County Public Library will hold a series of programs for adults on Tuesday evenings, 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., throughout the month of February, called “Look behind the headlines at the library.”

On Tuesday, February 5, local pediatrician Dr. Kate Cita will share her experiences during three years she spent working in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

On Tuesday, February 12, Wayne County resident Rita Dibble, who was born in India and works as a specialist with the American Cancer Society, will present some personal background and then hold an open discussion forum.

On Tuesday, February 19, Dr. Mahmoud Fahmy, a cultural historian specializing in the modern Middle East, will present “The Shadow of September 11: Life at the crossroads.”

ECS working on its budget

ELDRED — The Eldred Central School Board of Education will hold six 7:30 p.m. budget workshop sessions at the high school. The workshops are scheduled for Thursdays, February 7 and 21, March 7, 14, 21, and 28. For more information call 845/557-6141.






Eldred Little League prepares for 2002

ELDRED — Eldred Little League has set registration dates for the 2002 season.

The dates are: Saturday, February 2 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Eldred Town Hall; Wednesday, February 6 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Mackenzie Elementary School in Glen Spey; Sunday, February 10 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Mackenzie Elementary School; and Tuesday, February 19 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Eldred Town Hall.

Parents should bring a copy of the child’s birth certificate and $35 (one child) or $50 (per family) for registration. After Tuesday, February 19, an additional $10 fee will be required to register. No child will be turned away due to inability to pay.

For anyone interested in coaching a league team, there will be a meeting at the Eldred Town Hall on Wednesday, February 13 at 7:00 p.m. Sponsors are also still needed.
