Eagle eyes

NARROWSBURG — The past weekend provided great weather for bald eagle watchers to gather and watch the national emblem in action.

Eagle Institute volunteer Jan Lokuta had several spotting scopes set up on the Main Street deck in Narrowsburg and a steady stream of visitors, bird watchers and the merely curious, stopped to take advantage of the opportunity to view the eagles along the Big Eddy. Eagle watchers also gathered across the river at the Route 652 Fish and Wildlife access area in Darbytown, PA.

Eagles have been sighted with some frequency over the past several weeks, feeding in the Big Eddy. As many as 35-40 have been sighted on river ice and in nearby trees.

Narrowsburg will be celebrating its eagles at the upcoming EagleFest on February 16. For more information, call 845/252-7409.
