MARSHALL E. COOK

HONESDALE — Marshall E. Cook of Honesdale, a retired machine operator and truck driver for PennDOT in Honesdale, died Friday, January 11, 2002 at home. He was 89.

Son of the late John and Susan Arnold Cook, he was born in Creamton.

He was a graduate of the Honesdale High School Class of 1930. He was formerly employed as a machinist at the former Lummus Company. He was a member of the Honesdale Central United Methodist Church for over 50 years.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Stark Cook; two daughters, Marilyn Ludwig and husband Wallace of Virginia and Marcia Murray and husband Richard of Morganville, NJ; two brothers, Merrill of Prompton and Gerald of Florida; two sisters, Mildred Pazel of Waymart and Leila Edwards of Honesdale; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a special niece, Cheryl Soja; special great-nieces, Tina Dodge and Tanya Soja; other nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Lester and two sisters, Crystal Gummoe and Beulah Pazel.

Private funeral services were held at the family’s convenience.

JOHN PAVESE

MONTICELLO — John Pavese of Monticello, a retired supermarket owner in Emerson, NJ and a 35-year area resident, died Thursday, January 17, 2002 after a long illness at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 84.

Son of the late Rocco and Concetta Urgo Pavese, he was born January 5, 1918 in Teaneck, NJ. He was the widower of Helene Piela Pavese who died in 1996.

Survivors include two sons, Charles and John, both of Monticello; five grandchildren, Brendan, John Jr., Elizabeth, Maria and Paulina Pavese; two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Brendan Jr.; nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held at Saint Thomas of Aquinas Cemetery in Forestburgh.

EMMA M. PROPST

HONESDALE — Emma Margaret “Amy” Arbes Propst, RN, of Honesdale, died unexpectedly Thursday, January 17, 2001 after being rushed to the Wayne Memorial Hospital Emergency Room following a long illness. She was 79.

Daughter of the late John and Emma Krebber Arbes, she was born May 11, 1922 in Dortmund, Germany.

She was the widow of Harry D. Propst, MD who died October 10, 2001.

Her family came to the U.S. in 1925 when she was three years old. She was a graduate of Mount Lebanon High School and later graduated with high honors with a Registered Nursing Degree from Allegheny Center Hospital in Pittsburgh. She was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army-Air Corps as a first lieutenant with the Nursing Corps in the Pacific Theatre. She met her husband in Fort Dix, NJ and they were married July 9, 1949. They lived for a time near Sayre and Blossburg while he did his surgical residency and then moved to Honesdale where he set up practice in 1954. She was a housewife and mother but also used her skills in the Wayne Memorial Hospital Emergency Room for many years.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Honesdale. She enjoyed her children and grandchildren, was an avid reader and loved to travel internationally. She and her friends had a Canasta Club for many years.

Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Propst-Proctor, MD; three sons, Peter M. and wife Janice, Michael J. and wife Nancy and Harry Deaver Jr. and wife Hayley, all of Lake Estemerwalt; two brothers, Richard and Albert Arbes, both of Pittsburgh; seven granddaughters, Wyley, Ashley and Grace Proctor, Allaina, Kristin and Seneca Propst; seven grandsons, M. Scott and Charles Proctor, Steven, Andrew, Harry Deaver III, Levi and Parker Propst; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services were held at the First Presbyterian Church in Honesdale. The Rev. Albert A. Chaffee, pastor, officiated. Cremation was held at the Maple Hill at Salem Crematory in Archbald.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wayne Memorial Hospital, Harry D. Propst Hospital Family Relief Fund, 601 Park Street, Honesdale, PA 18431.

ANULFO RUPERTI

HONESDALE — Ranulfo Ruperti of Honesdale, a retired waiter at the Plaza Hotel in New York City and a 25-year area resident, died Wednesday, January 16, 2002 at home following a brief illness. He was 92.

Son of the late Jorge and Priscilla Muentes Ruperti, he was born in Manta, Ecuador, South America.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II serving in the European Theatre. After moving to Honesdale, he worked part-time at the Park and Shop lot in Honesdale. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale.

Survivors include his wife, Maria Rossi Ruperti; a son, Robert; a daughter, Judy of New York; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Michael Sonia Paloy of Cherry Ridge; a stepson, Juan Flood of California; a brother, Pablo of Connecticut; and 10 step-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by five brothers and two sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered in St. Mary Magdalen’s Church in Honesdale. Burial was in Indian Orchard Cemetery in Texas Township.

GEORGE R. WILSON, JR.

BEACH LAKE — George R. Wilson, Jr. of Beach Lake, formerly of Belvidere, NJ, a retired road and bridge construction supervisor and an 11-year area resident, died Wednesday, January 16, 2002 at home. He was 72.

Son of George R. Sr. and Sadie Brook Wilson, he was born April 5, 1929 in Elizabeth, NJ.

He was a past master and past secretary of the Warren Masonic Lodge 13 in Belvidere, NJ and was a beloved friend of the Narrowsburg United Methodist Church in Narrowsburg, NY.

Survivors include his wife of 49-years, Gladys Combs; a sister-in-law, Betty N. Combs of Brick, NJ; nieces and nephews.

Services were held at Rasmussen Sons Inc. Funeral Home in Narrowsburg, NY. The Rev. Steven Knutsen officiated. Burial was at Belvidere Cemetery in Belvidere, NJ.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Narrowsburg United Methodist Church, in Narrowsburg, NY 12764.

NANCY F. WILSON

NARROWSBURG — Nancy F. Wilson, an insurance broker and manager for the Narrowsburg office of Mike Preis, Inc., and a 26-year area resident, died Tuesday, January 22, 2002 at Marian Community Hospital in Carbondale, PA. She was 51.

The daughter of James Earl and Elva Brown Wilson, she was born on May 23, 1950 in McKeesport, PA.

Survivors include her father, James Wilson of West Newton, PA; one daughter Christine Casey of Fallsdale, PA; one son, David Casey of Narrowsburg; three sisters, Karen Davis of Trafford, PA, Ellen Pawlowski of Cranberry Township, PA and Elsie Wilson of Glenshaw, PA; and three nephews and one niece.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, January 24, 2002 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Rasmussen Sons Inc. Funeral Home in Narrowsburg.

Services will be held on Friday, January 24, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Steven Knutsen will officiate.

Interment will be in Glen Cove Cemetery in Narrowsburg.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Narrowsburg Fire Department or to the Tusten Volunteer Ambulance Corps., Narrowsburg, NY 12764.
