West Bulldogs maul Fallsburg
By TOM KANE
JEFFERSONVILLE — The December 18 basketball game
between the Sullivan West girls and the Fallsburg girls was a shooting
match for the Bulldogs.
The final score was Bulldogs 71, Fallsburg 18.
Every Bulldog player, starters and subs, scored.
Veteran center Tiffany Hauser was high scorer with
20 points, 18 in the first half. Guard Aileen Sementez had 12 and
forward Calley Sander had 11.
Comet Ashley Frunzi was high scorer with eight
points, and Irene Nikolodos had six.
The Bulldog zone was like an immoveable wall that
left the Fallsburg Comets no other choice than to shoot from outside.
Not many shots dropped.
Sullivan West’s record is 3 – 0 overall and 1 –
0 in league play.
The Comets’ record is 0 – 3.
Bulldog coach Ron Bernhardt kept a steady flow
of substitutes going into the game.
“I have eight high-performance players and it’s
hard to select only five,” he said. “I’m going do this as long as
I can.”
This is the first year that Sullivan West has merged
all sports teams from the three high school that make up the district—at
least until the new high school building is completed in 2003.
Bernhardt’s former Jeffersonville team now has
players from Delaware Valley and Narrowsburg to beef up his bench.
“This is a nice problem to have,” he said.
The Lady Bulldogs are in first place in division
IV.
I’ll
