Shohola
in brief
By SARAH KOENIG
SHOHOLA — A number of housekeeping matters were
discussed at the Shohola Township meeting on Thursday, December
13. The township:
- Renewed its contract with Blue Ridge Communications,
despite the fact that Blue Ridge is increasing fees two percent
and informing customers that the township passed a tax levy ordinance
of two percent. The ordinance, according to Supervisor George
Fluhr, was passed in 1991. “We had to sign off on it,” Fluhr said,
“because there’s no other cable company interested in providing
service to Shohola. And besides, they already have the infrastructure
set up.”
- Swore in Howard Drake as a fire policeman
following the completion of training.
- Conducted a hearing and approved a liquor
license for Lamda Beta Sigma, a company which plans to operate
a banquet hall for formal occasions.
- Heard a presentation by the Shohola Historical
Society, which is planning a commemoration of the township’s 150th
birthday. Specific details haven’t been worked out yet, but the
society hopes to celebrate the anniversary in a number of ways.
- Scheduled the next meeting for Thursday,
December 27 at 7:30 p.m.
