VINCENT AUGUSTINE
LIVINGSTON MANOR — Vincent Augustine of Livingston
Manor, former owner/operator of F&S Machine Shop and a retired
machinist for Keiser Equipment, both in Livingston Manor, a livelong
area resident, died Thursday, December 13, 2001 at the Roscoe Community
Nursing Home. He was 83.
Son of the late Louis V. and Elizabeth Love Augustine,
he was born January 31, 1918 in Brooklyn.
Survivors include his wife, Elsie Augustine, at
home; a son, Vincent, Jr. and wife Patricia of White Sulphur Springs;
two daughters, Florence Diescher of St. Petersburg, FL and Lorraine
Krupp and husband John of Livingston Manor; a brother, Eugene and
wife Charlotte of Ormond Beach, FL; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren;
nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by four brothers.
Cremation was private. A committal service will
be held at a later date at St. Aloysius Cemetery in Livingston Manor.

SELMA G. FIELD
MONTICELLO — Selma G. Field, a long-time area resident
and co-founder and president of Field Associates, a public relations,
marketing and management consulting organization, died Wednesday,
December 19, 2001 at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional
Medical Center. She was 76.
Daughter of the late Samuel and Pauline Kreisberg,
Selma lived in Monticello since her childhood.
Selma Field was a publicist, a prolific writer and
Director of Public Relations, Marketing, Fundraising and Development
for the former Community General Hospital and the GHI Foundation.
In these roles, she served as the hospital spokesman since 1960,
and is credited with envisioning and promoting the rural geriatric
continuum of care, the Health Promotion and Wellness Department,
the Complementary Medicine Department, the Century Club and the
CGH Foundation.
She served on the Monticello Central School Board
of Education for 10 years; was chairman of the State University
of New York at New Paltz College Council for 13 years; a founding
board member and president of the Sullivan County CASA; a founding
member and vice president of the Sullivan County Literacy Volunteers;
and contributed in several other ways to her community.
She co-authored books with her husband of 55 years,
Edwin, seven books on fund-raising, public relations and crafts.
She was also the author of many weekly columns over the years.
She graduated Magna Cum Laude from the New York
State College for Teachers at Albany and was honored for her services
by many organizations.
Survivors include her husband, Edwin Field, at home;
three daughters, Jessica and husband Norman Cohen of Norwich, Shelly
Field of Monticello and Deborah Field of Syracuse; a grandson, Geoff
Gohen and a daughter-in-law, Susan Timberlake, both of Brookline,
MA.
Services were held at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral
Home in Monticello. Rabbi Ben-Zion Chanowitz officiated. Burial
was in the Workman’s Circle Cemetery in Monticello.

JAMES H. GANNON
NARROWSBURG — James H. Gannon of Narrowsburg, formerly
of Ramsey, NJ, owner and driver of stock car #876 in White Lake,
a plumber for Wiersma plumbing heating in Ramsey, NJ, died Saturday,
December 15, 2001. He was 36.
He was the son of the late Arthur and Marion Gannon.
Survivors include his wife, Michelle Kubat Gannon;
a son, two-year old James W.; five sisters, Shirley Magnuson of
Kingston, OK; Patricia Hartig of Ramsey, NJ, Elsie Gannon of Ramsay,
NJ, Ruth DeLeon of Oakland, NJ and Barbara Chartier of Norman, OK;
mother-in-law, Carol Beggs of Narrowsburg; nieces, nephews and friends.
Services were held at the Van Emburgh-Sneider in
Ramsey, NJ. Burial was at Redeemer Cemetery Chapel.
ANASTASIA GALLAGHER
HEMLOCK FARMS — Anastasia Gallagher of Hemlock Farms,
Lord’s Valley, died Saturday, December 15, 2001 at home. She was
87.
Daughter of the late Percy and Wilhemina Weber Hurrell,
she was born in Brooklyn, NY. She was the widow of James J. Gallagher.
Survivors include two daughters, Jacqueline Grenard-Adesso
of Long Island, NY and Gail Patricia Tasso of Lord’s Valley; a sister,
Frances Cornacchio of Edison, NJ; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Karen Marie Tasso
and a son, James Joseph, Jr.
Burial was in Pinelawn Memorial Park and Cemetery
in Farmingdale, Long Island, NY.

LOUIS A. HENSZ
NARROWSBURG — Louis A. Hensz of Narrowsburg, a retired
supervisor for Brevard County in Titusville, FL and a long-time
area resident, died Thursday, December 20, 2001 at home. He was
75.
Son of John Adam and Julletta Flood Hensz, he was
born on April 12, 1926 in Tusten, NY. He was the widower of Meta
Lass.
He was a WWII Veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include five daughters, Kathleen Suchinski
of West Simsbury, CT, Susan Tabor of Maryville, TN, Theresa Wilson
of Narrowsburg, Lu-Ann Stevens of Titusville, FL and Veronica Sluder
of Titusville, FL; two sons, Joseph and Timmy, both of Narrowsburg;
two sisters, Irene McCooey of Cape Cod, MA and Theresa Tebo of Narrowsburg;
one brother, George of Matamoras, PA; 10 grandchildren; several
nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by one grandson.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Francis
Xavier R.C. Church in Narrowsburg. The Rev. Thomas Jones officiated.
Burial was at St. Francis Cemetery.

MARTHA A. HYNAN
WURTSBORO — Martha A. Hynan of Wurtsboro, a longtime
area resident, died Sunday, December 16, 2001 at home. She was 80.
Daughter of the late George and Emily Arden Chichester,
she was born November 2, 1921 in Mt. Morris. She was the widow of
William F. Hynan.
Survivors include nieces and nephews, Douglas Chichester,
Morgan Chichester, Jr. and Louise Welsh.
She was predeceased by a brother, Morgan E. Chichester,
Sr.
Services were held at the VanInwegen-Kenny Inc.,
Funeral Home in Wurtsboro. Burial was in Bloomingburg Rural Cemetery
in Bloomingburg.
DOROTHY JENKINS
SPARROWBUSH — Dorothy Jenkins of Sparrowbush, a
bookkeeper for the Riverside Hotel in Matamoras, PA and a lifelong
area resident, died Wednesday, December 1, 2001 at home. She was
72.
Daughter of the late Albert and Anna Bukowski Lippert,
she was born October 3, 1929 in Montclair, NJ. She was the widow
of Claude Jenkins.
She was a member of St. Mary’s R.C. Church in Port
Jervis, Matamoras Senior Citizens and a member of the Port Jervis
Bowling League.
Survivors include a son, Richard Jenkins of Bloomfield,
NJ; two sisters, Betty Maryanski of Bloomfield, NJ and her twin
sister, Dolores Lippert of Bloomfield, NJ; four grandchildren; nieces
and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mary’s
Roman Catholic Church in Port Jervis. The Rev. Dennis Dinan officiated.
Burial was in Pine Hill Cemetery in Sparrowbush.
BERNARD LAHEY
PORT JERVIS — Bernard “Butch” Lahey of Port Jervis,
a retired carman for the Erie-Lackawanna RR in Port Jervis and a
lifelong area resident, died Monday, December 17, 2001 at the Orange
County Residential Health Care in Goshen. He was 52.
Son of the late Bernard Lahey, Sr. and Helen Hockenberry
Lahey, he was born January 19, 1949.
Survivors include two sons, John of Royal Palm Beach,
FL and James of Pennsylvania; his grandfather, Enio Vocci of Port
Jervis; aunts, uncles and cousins.
Private services were held at the convenience of
the family. Burial was in Pine Hill Cemetery in Sparrowbush.
JOHN MICHAEL MURRAY
HONESDALE — John Michael Murray of Honesdale, a
past president of the former Murray Company on Main Street in Honesdale,
died Tuesday, December 18, 2001 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale.
He was 82.
Son of the late Phillip and Margaret Rose Murray,
he was born August 20, 1919 at the homestead in Cherry Ridge. He
was the widower of Barbara Kimball.
He graduated from Honesdale High School, class of
1936, and played in the Boys Band. He was a graduate of Penn State
University with a degree in mechanical engineering and a member
of the Blue Band and other organizations. He was a US Army Air Corps
veteran of World War II, serving in England, and was discharged
as a Captain. He was later with the US Air Force Reserve for many
years and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel.
He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish
in Honesdale and a former Sunday School teacher for Father Kane.
He later taught CCD. He was a former pitcher for the Murray Company
team in the Wayne County Softball League and a member of the Maple
City Band in Honesdale. He was a former member of the Seeleyville
Fire Company.
Survivors include three sons, Hugh K. and wife Debra
of Beach Lake, Stephen G. and wife Janis and Thomas V. and wife
Christina, all of Honesdale; two daughters, Virginia M. Walsh of
Honesdale and Patricia Hawker, RN of Narrowsburg, NY; two brothers,
George of Lemoyne and Phillip R. of Camp Hill; two sisters, Clara
Exner of Ambler and Margaret Gartland of Demarest, NJ; 12 grandchildren;
a great-grandson; nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Frederick and
Richard, and a sister, Mary.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St.
John the Evangelist Church in Honesdale. Burial was in St. Mary
Magdalen’s Cemetery.
