Selma Field
dead at 76
By TOM KANE
MONTICELLO — Selma Field, champion of community
health and spokesperson for the former Community General Hospital,
died at the Catskill Regional Medical Center last Wednesday, December
19.
She had been battling cancer for a number of years,
using therapies that are described as alternative or complementary
medicine.
Because of her experience with some of these therapies,
she became a champion of them and introduced some of them to the
hospital—therapies like acupuncture, massage and healing touch.
Field, who was a co-founder with her husband, Edwin,
of Field Associates, a public relations, marketing and management
firm, was a principal actor in the merger of the Liberty Maimonides
Hospital and the Monticello Hospital.
The merger resulted in the creation
of Community General Hospital, which has since become the Catskill
Regional Medical Center where she continued to serve in the capacity
of director of public relations and development.
She was also a founding member of the Sullivan
County Court Appointed Special Advocate program for children as
well as the Literacy Volunteers. She also served for a number of
years on the Monticello School Board, including 10 years as president.
She is survived by her husband Edwin and daughters
Jessica Field, Shelly Field and Deborah Field.
