The eagle has landed

MONGAUP VALLEY — Chainsaw wood sculptor Ted Walker of Peru, Maine, lines up the large wooden eagle that crowns the MIA/POW memorial in front of Peter and Michael Zaccari’s 17B Quick Stop in Bethel.

Peter Zaccari, a seven-year veteran of the NYPD Manhattan Warrant Squad, has been helping Walker with the sculpture when he can. Michael Zaccari, Peter’s brother, is a sponsor of the sculpture.

Jim and Mark Crowley donated use of the logging truck that helped hoist the eagle into place.

It took three hours on December 15 to set the eagle in place. Jim Crowley Sr. and Jr., and machine operator Malcolm Crawson, all assisted. The entire sculpture has been created in eight weeks (130 hours) of Ted Walker’s work. Walker will return in the spring to complete the finishing touches of the sculpture.
