ALFRED GIORDANO
HONESDALE — Alfred Giordano of Honesdale, formerly
of Pequannock and Florida, a 12-year area resident, died Wednesday,
November 28, 2001 at home. He was 68.
Son of the late John and Marietta Navarra Giordano,
he was born in Pequannock, NJ.
He was a private in the Army during the Vietnam
era.
Services were held at Richards Funeral Home in Riverdale,
NJ. Father Tom Hartle, OFM, officiated. Burial was in Mount Calvary
Cemetery in Butler, NJ.
BRYCE ELWIN HOLLISTER
HONESDALE — Dr. Bryce Elwin Hollister, DVM of Honesdale,
a 43-year practitioner of veterinary medicine in Wayne County before
retiring in 1983, died unexpectedly Saturday, December 1, 2001 at
home. He was 85.
Son of the late Amos Eugene and Keron Hattie Palmer
Hollister, he was born in Franklin Township, Susquehanna County.
He was the widower of Marie E. Palmer.
He graduated from Montrose High School and was a
1940 graduate of the Ontario Veterinary College in Ontario, Canada.
He was a member of the Central United Methodist Church in Honesdale;
the Honesdale Golf Club; and a 50-year member of the Honesdale Masonic
Lodge 218. He was a former member of the Welcome Lake Hunting Club.
Survivors include two sons, Benton B. and Thomas
E., both of Honesdale; two daughters, Phyllis Simmons of Largo,
FL and Patricia Stuart of Hellertown; a brother, Dr. Amos of Montrose;
a sister, Miriam Ellsworth of Montrose; eight grandchildren; seven
great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Dr. Charles
and Dwight.
Services were held at the Hessling Funeral Home
in Honesdale. The Rev. Mark R. Terwilliger, pastor of the Central
United Methodist Church in Honesdale, officiated. Burial was in
East Dyberry Cemetery in Dyberry Township.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Central
United Methodist Church, 205 11th Street, Honesdale, or to a charity
of the donor’s choice.
MAC INGBER
SOUTH FALLSBURG — Mac Ingber of South Fallsburg,
retired owner and president of Service Scaffold Company in South
Fallsburg, died Monday, December 3, 2001. He was 81.
One of nine children of the late Morris and Fannie
Kaufman Ingber, he was born May 25, 1920 in Poland. He was the widower
of Rose Cohen Ingber.
He was a member and past president of the South
Fallsburg Hebrew Association; a member of the Fallsburg Fire Department
and was a past commissioner for the Fallsburg Fire District; a member
of the Town of Fallsburg Lions Club; a past board member of the
Monticello Hospital and a former member of the American Arbitration
Board.
Survivors include two sons, Howard and wife Fern
and Daniel and wife Mona, all of South Fallsburg; two daughters,
Ilene and her companion Wayne Hilmer of Stevensville, MD and Gina
Miskin and husband Scott of New York City; a daughter-in-law, Linda
Ingber of South Fallsburg; three brothers, Ben and Lou, both of
New York, and Jack of South Fallsburg; four sisters, Pauline Resnick
of Akron, OH, Bessie Greenberg of Brooklyn, Mimi Leff and Shirley
Moskowitz, both of New York; and 11 grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two sons, Mark and Brian.
Services were held at the South Fallsburg Hebrew
Association Synagogue in South Fallsburg. Rabbi Isaac Gottlieb officiated.
Burial was in the South Fallsburg Hebrew Association Cemetery in
Glen Wild.

LEWIS D. LOCKLIN
LAKEVILLE — Lewis D. Locklin of Lakeville, a dairy
farmer and a lifelong area resident, died Monday, December 10, 2001
at Wayne Woodlands Manor in Waymart. He was 91.
Son of the late Oliver O. Locklin and Cornelia Barker
Phillips Locklin, he was born in Lakeville.
He was a graduate of Hawley High School and Pennsylvania
State University. He was a member of the Lakeville United Methodist
Church; a member of Honesdale Lodge F&AM; a former member of
Hawley Lodge #30 F&AM, Grand Lodge of PA; active in many farm
and conservation groups; Penn State Extension Service and Paupack
Township Planning Commission.
Survivors include his wife, Edna Margaret Locklin
of Lakeville; a daughter, Mary Lou Dellert of Candor, NY; a stepson,
Roger DeMany and wife Sandra; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren;
nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Mary Martin
Locklin.
Services were held at Teeters’ East Chapel in Hawley.
The Rev. Martin L. Cox, Jr., pastor of the Hawley United Methodist
Church, officiated. Burial was in Lakeville Cemetery in Lakeville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s
favorite charity.
JOHN JOSEPH McGOVERN
HAWLEY — John Joseph McGovern of Hawley, a former
public relations writer for F.W. Woolworth in New York who was also
a sports writer for the Elizabeth Daily Journal, the New York News,
the Bernardsville News, the Summit Herald and the Pocono Record,
died Sunday, December 2, 2001 at Bon Secours Community Hospital
in Port Jervis, NY. He was 75.
Son of James and Myrtle McKenna McGovern, he was
born in Elizabeth, NJ.
He was a member of St. John Neumann Church in Lord’s
Valley and was a World War II Army veteran who was awarded the Purple
Heart.
Survivors include his wife, Celine Yingling McGovern;
four daughters, Therese, Lauren, Nancy and Gayle; a son, James;
and 13 grandchildren.
A funeral mass was offered at St. John Neumann Church.
The Rev. Gary Hawley officiated.

EUGENE J. SLATTERY, SR.
CARLSBAD, CA — Eugene J. Slattery of Sarasota, FL,
general manager in the aviation field of a specialty leasing company
that served the airlines and airports with ground support equipment,
died Tuesday, October 9, 2001 at the home of his daughter in Carlsbad,
CA. He was 80.
He was born in Harrison, NJ. He was the widower
of Irene Slattery.
He graduated from the State University of New York
with a BS in Business Administration.
During World War II he served as a Naval Flight
Instructor stationed at Corpus Christi, TX. He held the rank of
Lieutenant Senior Grade. Following the war he worked as a pilot
in commercial aviation.
Formerly of Closter, NJ, he was a member of the
church of the Incarnation in Sarasota, FL and a member of the Association
of Naval Aviators and the Golden Pelican Squadron. He spent 23 years
as a broker and vice-president of the Florida Sun Realty Corporation
in Sarasota, FL.
Survivors include a sister, Aileen Martin of Honesdale;
three daughters, Irene Lang of Carlsbad, CA, Catherine Dearborn
and Patricia, both of Sarasota, FL; three sons, Thomas, Jr. of Englewood,
FL, Thomas of Dumont, NJ and Timothy of Cresskill, NJ; 11 grandchildren
and one great-granddaughter.
A memorial liturgy was celebrated at the Church
of the Incarnation in Sarasota, FL. Burial was at the Church of
the Incarnation Memorial Garden.
WILLIAM J. SWENDSEN
MILANVILLE — William J. Swendsen of Milanville,
a farmer and longtime area resident, died Saturday, December 8,
2001 at Mercy Community Hospital in Scranton. He was 73.
Son of Russell and Edna Taylor Swendsen, he was
born April 27, 1928 in Honesdale.
He was a member of the Damascus Township Historical
Society; the Damascus Manor; the Boyds Mills Hunting Club; the Damascus
Township Planning Board; a former member of the Pennsylvania Farm
Bureau and the Wayne County Extension Service; and a member of the
Damascus Township Hunting Club.
Survivors include his wife, Alberta, at home; five
sons, Richard and wife Cindy of Cooperstown, Gary of Waymart, Harvey
and wife Carla of Milanville, Dale and wife Trudy of Manheim and
Fred of Milanville; a daughter, Lori Hecknan and husband Perry of
Mohrsville; and 12 grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a son, Lloyd.
Services were held at Rasmussen Sons Inc. Funeral
Home in Narrowsburg. The Rev. William Rushik officiated. Burial
was at Calkins Cemetery in Milanville.
