State purchases 111 acres on the Beaverkill

ALBANY — Governor George E. Pataki announced on December 11 that New York State (NYS) has purchased 111 acres along the Beaverkill River in the towns of Colchester and Rockland.

The parcel is located immediately downstream from the confluence of the Beaverkill and Willowemoc rivers. The lands will be managed by the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) to preserve and enhance the unique ecosystem and protect extensive trout stream frontage property, including the historic Barnhart's trout pool, which is part of the classic dry fly fishing waters of the lower Beaverkill.

NYS purchased the property for $450,000 from Donald Nuckel/Hardenburgh Properties, LLC.
