Legislative Democrats discuss MacKinnon replacement

By TOM KANE

MONTICELLO — The Democratic caucus of the Sullivan County Legislature met this past Tuesday, November 27 without any decision on the replacement for District 4 Legislator Gordon MacKinnon.

MacKinnon died on October 9 while still in office.

On November 26, the Town of Mamakating Democratic Committee, upon the Legislature’s request for a recommendation, chose Jonathan Rouis as MacKinnon’s replacement.

Rouis is the son of the former county administrator Paul Rouis, who was in office for 22 years before the country changed into a charter form of government.

The other name that has been mentioned is the popular legislator’s widow, Joann MacKinnon.

“We [the Democratic caucus of the Legislature] discussed the matter this morning and came to no resolution,” said Legislature Chairman Rusty Pomeroy.

Pomeroy said the matter would be resolved as quickly as possible.
