RONALD P. BODENS
NARROWSBURG — Ronald P. “Bodie” Bodens of Narrowsburg,
a heavy equipment operator and mechanic for Van Excavating in Narrowsburg
and a lifelong area resident, died Tuesday, November 27, 2001 at
home. He was 64.
Son of Gilbert Lewis and Agnes Smith Bodens, he
was born January 1, 1937 in Lava.
He was a member of Saint Francis Roman Catholic
Church in Narrowsburg; a life member of the Lava Fire Department
and a chief of that department for 16 years; a member of the Beaverbrook
Rod and Gun Club; a life member and past president of the S.C.V.F.F.A.,
as well as a veteran of the U.S. Army and the National Guard, having
served in the Army from 1957 to 1959 and the National Guard from
1959 to 1965.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Reiser Bodens,
at home; his mother, Agnes Bodens of Narrowsburg; four step-children,
Alan Reiser and wife Chrislien of Otisville, NY, Douglas Reiser
and wife Joanne of Barryville, NY, Wendy Worzel and husband Bruce
of Highland Lake, NY and Jessica Reiser of Eldred, NY; seven step-grandchildren,
Patrick, Kate, Carley, Kendall, Joshua, Ryan and Thomas; several
cousins.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, December
3, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. at Rasmussen Sons, Inc. Funeral Home in Narrowsburg.
The Reverend Thomas Jones will officiate. Cremation will take place
at the Twin Tiers Crematory, Endicott, NY with internment of the
cremains in Lava Cemetery, Narrowsburg, NY.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lava Fire
Department or the Tusten Volunteer Ambulance, both of Narrowsburg,
NY 12764.
ANTHONY R. D’ETTORE
HAWLEY — Anthony R. D’Ettore of Hawley, a former
tailor for a garment factory, died Tuesday, November 20, 2001 at
Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale. He was 77.
Son of the late John and Mary Antonelli D’Ettore,
he was born in the Bronx, NY.
He was of the Roman Catholic faith.
Survivors include his wife, Michelena Trezza D’Ettore;
two sons, Peter Najy of Milford and Walter Najy of Queens, NY; a
daughter, Joann Hubner of Murphy, NC; a sister, Mary Willis of Rowland;
eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.
No services were held per his request. Cremation
took place at the H.G. Smith Crematory in Stroudsburg.
JAMES J. FARRELL JR.
HAWLEY — James J. Farrell, Jr. of Paupackan Lake
Estates in Hawley, a two-year area resident who previously had vacationed
here for the past 20 years, a retired municipal bond salesman for
Lehman Bros., NY, died Friday, November 23, 2001 at home. He was
56.
Son of the late James J. Farrell, Sr. and Josephine
Squillante Farrell, he was born in Staten Island, NY.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Roman
Catholic Church in Brooklyn and attended Queen of Peace Church in
Hawley. He was a Sgt-Major in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving in
Vietnam. He was a member of the Wilson-Kelch Post 311, American
Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Moran-Farrell;
a son, James J. III and wife, Tracy of Farmington, CT; a grandson,
Michael and granddaughter Hannah, both of Farmington, CT.
Services were held at Queen of Peace Catholic Church
in Hawley. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
JOHN J. FLOTARD, SR.
ELDRED — John J. Flotard, Sr. of Eldred, a retired
operating engineer with local No. 825 and a 60-year area resident,
died Tuesday, November 20, 2001 at home. He was 87.
Son of the late Edward and Mary Armstrong Flotard,
he was born January 28, 1914 in Brooklyn. He was the widower of
Ruth H. Rice Flotard.
He was an Army veteran of World War II and was a
member of the VFW No. 6427 of Narrowsburg.
Survivors include a son, John J. Jr. and wife Fran
of Eldred; two granddaughters, Ellen Neu and Dawn Halverson, both
of Highland Lake; two great-grandchildren, Kristina and Ryan.
He was predeceased by a brother and two sisters.
Services were held at the Calverton National Cemetery
Chapel in Calverton, Long Island. Burial was in Calverton National
Cemetery in Calverton.

FRANCIS EDMUND MEHM
HONESDALE — Francis Edmund Mehm of Honesdale, formerly
of Levittown, NY, a former U.S. postal employee in Levittown, NY,
died Thursday, November 22, 2001 at Community Medical Center in
Scranton. He was 79.
Son and last surviving member of the William and
Elizabeth Walter Mehm family, he was born November 17, 1922 in Wilkes-Barre.
He was the widower of Margaret Elliott Mehm.
He was a graduate of St. Nicholas High School, class
of 1940 and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving with
the 109th Artillery Regiment of the 28th Infantry Division in Europe.
He was an active member of St. Joseph’s Parish in White Mills, serving
as Eucharistic Minister. Upon moving to Honesdale, he was a member
of St. John the Evangelist Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration at the
chapel.
Survivors include three sons, Frank and wife Barbara
of Herndon, VA, Kenneth of LeRoy, NY and Robert and wife Theresa
of Lindenhurst, NY; a daughter, Kathleen Fountain of Massapequa
Park, NY; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces and
nephews.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Elizabeth Xevoli
and five brothers, Bill, Carl, George, Joseph and Walter.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered in St. Mary
Magdalen Church in Honesdale. A nephew, the Rev. Richard Mehm, officiated.
Burial was in St. Nicholas Cemetery in Shavertown.
JANINA STADNICKI
POND EDDY — Janina Stadnicki of Pond Eddy, an employee
at the Ukrainian Resort in Glen Spey and a 20-year area resident,
died Tuesday, November 20, 2001 at home. She was 77.
Daughter of the late Roman and Wilhelmina Mylius
Tippe, she was born October 5, 1924 in Poland.
She was a member of St. Volodymyr’s Ukrainian Catholic
Church in Glen Spey.
Survivors include her husband, Bogdan Stadnicki
at home; a son, Janusz of Bytom, Poland; three daughters, Boguslawa
Lubos of Wevl, Germany, Grazyna Stadnicki of Pond Eddy and Aleksandra
Zeglicka of Kamionka Wielka, Poland; two brothers, Wieslaw Tippe
of Olkusz, Poland and Zbigniew Tippe of Warsaw, Poland; three grandchildren,
Matthew Lubos, Pawel Zeglicka and Damian Zeglicka.
A Liturgy Mass was held at St. Volodymyr’s Ukrainian
Catholic Church in Glen Spey. The Rev. Olesksa Kostyk officiated.
Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Kamionka Wielka, Poland.
ROSE LILLIAN WELLS
HAWLEY — Rose Lillian Wells of Hawley, a former
employee in the shipping department at Sherman Mills in Hawley and
Seams in White Mills and a lifelong area resident, died Wednesday,
November 21, 2001 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale. She was
72.
Daughter of Edith Kelly Wells and the late William
A. Wells, she was born in Kimbles.
She was a member of Cole Memorial Baptist Church
in Hawley.
Survivors include her mother of Kimbles; three sisters,
Edith Granville of Bethany, Barbara Herzog of Lakeville and Randy
Lynne Wells of Kimbles; two brothers, George Wells of Hallendale,
FL and William Wells, Jr. of Kimbles; nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a sister, Hazel Martin.
Services were held at Teeters’ East Chapel in Hawley.
The Rev. Robert L. Jones, pastor of Cole Memorial Baptist Church,
officiated. Burial was in Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Kimbles.
