Beats plucking feathers

GLEN SPEY — Markswoman Theresa Stone of Port Jervis is pictured with Lumberland Fire Department secretary and “Turkey Shoot” chairman Don Kaufman. Kaufman is holding a frozen turkey which Stone won during a paper-target, shotgun marksmanship contest on November 18.

It was one of thirteen frozen turkeys won during the annual November competition at the firehouse. The turkeys, and numerous prizes raffled for department fundraising, were all donated by local sponsors and businesses.

In its 18th year, the Turkey Shoot has become a holiday tradition, as well as a reliable fundraiser for the department, Kaufman said. Coming on the eve of big game season, the contest has become a welcome stop for eager hunters awaiting the Monday dawn and those who head home for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday.
