Maurice Hinchey lauds efforts

HARRIS — The Seelig Diabetes Self-Management Education Program at Catskill Regional Medical Center received the prestigious American Diabetes Association Education Recognition Certificate on Monday, November 19.

Congressman Maurice Hinchey was on hand to keynote the celebration that was held in the diabetes center, located on the fourth floor of the hospital.

“Diabetics have the ability to take control of their lives if they are properly educated,” Hinchey said. “That’s the kind of education that is taking place in this center.

Hinchey, who is recognized as a health care advocate, related how his grandson contracted the disease when he was two years old. “It was only through the alert awareness of a health worker that his life was saved,” he said.

“This award recognizes the leadership of this center,” he said.

For more information contact the diabetics center at 845/794-3300, extension 2106.
