Tortoise or Doodle Bug

By DAVID JACKMAN

NARROWBURG — Preserving pieces of farm equipment is a love of the members of the Neversink Rondout Antique Machinery Association. The association is showing off its collection of antique engines, tractors, classic cars and farm equipment at the second annual Antique Power and Equipment Show and Swap Meet at the Grahamsville Fairgrounds on Saturday and Sunday, September 22 and 23 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

“The show is for people interested in preserving old farm equipment for future generations.” Ed Gettel of Narrowsburg said. Gettel is the owner of a 1931 Model AA Doodle Bug. “During and after WWII, tractors were hard to find and cost prohibitive, so people would down size old cars or pick up trucks,” Gettel said. The Doodle Bug runs extremely slow and Gettel will “race” against at least eight Doodle Bugs this year.

Along with the antique exhibits, races and games for kids, there will be live music, crafts and a chicken barbecue. Admission is free, and parking is one dollar.
