Wayne woman
linked to overdoses
HONESDALE — A Honesdale woman was arrested by borough
police last week and charged with supplying illegal narcotics to
three persons who required emergency room treatment at Wayne Memorial
Hospital on September 13.
Responding to the Wayne Memorial Hospital Emergency
Room Thursday, police reportedly found an adult male and a juvenile
female being treated for drug overdose, who were soon joined by
a third individual, a male juvenile.
All three overdoses were linked to Joy Kresge,
34, who is said to have supplied the drugs. Kresge was charged with
felony, delivery of a controlled substance along with misdemeanor
charges involving reckless endangerment and corruption of minors.
Settlement
reached in
school aid refund suit
LIBERTY — Sullivan County, the Board of Cooperative
Extension Services (BOCES) and the Liberty School District have
reached an out-of-court settlement to reimburse the county following
a state Department of Education audit of program aid to the educators.
A state Department of Education audit for the school
years 1991/92 and 1992/93 revealed that the district and BOCES were
not entitled to the funds sent and the county was charged for the
discrepancy of funds.
The negotiations between BOCES, the Liberty School
District and the county have been ongoing for about a year. The
Liberty School district will pay the county slightly more than $94,000
and BOCES will pay a little more than $50,000 within the next 30
days to settle the outstanding debt.
River planner
Hartmann dies
DEERPARK — One of the founding members of the Upper
Delaware Council (UDC), Francis “Frank” Hartmann, died September
16 at Westchester Medical Center.
Hartmann reportedly had been hospitalized with
heart problems for two weeks prior to his death.
A long time hunting and conservation advocate,
Hartmann served 21 years on Deerpark’s planning board, chairing
it for 15 years. When river planning began, Hartmann was named to
the UDC predecessor, the Conference of Upper Delaware Towns, went
on to chair the committee that drafted the final re-write for the
river management plan and chaired the UDC.
Hartmann withdrew from UDC after being appointed
to a vacant town justice seat in 1993, where he was elected and
continued to serve until his death.
Trade center
dampens county parade
LOCH SHELDRAKE — The 73rd annual Sullivan County
Volunteer Firefighters Association parade went on as scheduled September
15 but many fire companies stayed away in observance of the recent
tragedy in New York City.
Crowds along the parade route reportedly were somber
and firefighters marching were even more so. Firefighters marched
with badges covered to indicate the deaths of fellow firefighters
at the World Trade Center. Black bunting draped on the entrances
to the Loch Sheldrake Firehouse to mourn the missing.
The association agreed to theme the parade as a
memorial last week in the wake of the attacks, but some 15 of 40
expected companies still felt it inappropriate and withdrew.
