Safety first

LIBERTY — A free event on child safety seats will take place Saturday, September 15 at the Sullivan County BOCES Administrative Building parking lot, located on State Street.

The free training program is designed to teach parents, grandparents and others who use car seats  how to properly install a seat in their specific vehicle. Certified technicians will be on hand from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. to instruct onlookers how to properly install a car seat.

The Sullivan BOCES Comprehensive Traffic Injury Prevention Program (CTIPP) office is also sponsoring a four-day car seat technician training program from Wednesday, September 12 through Saturday, September 15, from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. The Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician Training is an interactive, hands-on training program that is open without charge to childcare workers, health and human service employees and others interested in becoming a certified technician. In order to complete certification, trainees must attend all sessions, serve as a local car seat technical resource person, pay a Certification fee of $10 per year, and be a part of the National Child Passenger Resource Database.

For more information on either event, contact the Sullivan County BOCES CTIPP Office at 845/292-0082, extension 139.

Giving parents the support they deserve

The support group is open without charge to all Sullivan County parents who have children that learn differently or struggle in school. The goal of the support group is to continue to inform parents of their rights and the rights of their children.

Refreshments will be served. For more information, call Sherry Eidel at 845/292-0082, extension 142.
