Hazardous waste collection

MONTICELLO — The Sullivan County Division of Solid Waste will host another Sullivan County Residential Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event next month.

Due to the success of last year’s event, the county has scheduled a second collection for Saturday, September 15 at the Sullivan County Sanitary Landfill Scale House Area, at 91 Landfill Drive, Monticello. Look in local newspapers for a pre-registration form or call Bill Cutler at 845/794-4466.

The event is open to all persons with residences in Sullivan County only. Pre-registration is required in order to participate. Residents can dispose of solvents, antifreeze, pesticides, pool chemicals, creosote, acids, bases, mercury containing devices, computers, Ni-Cad batteries, fluorescent bulbs, cleaning products, oil-cased (not latex) paints and fuels.

It is important to pre-register for this event because materials can be dropped off by appointment only.

Farmers should take note that the County Soil and Water Conservation District and the Cornel Cooperative Extension are sponsoring an Ag Hazardous Waste Clean-up Day on Friday, September 14. Contact Joseph Walsh at 845/292-6180 for more information.
