Picnic by prescription

MATAMORAS — Maurice Ahern, pictured above with his wife Jean, was one of about 600 guests attending the Fifth Annual Cancer Survivors’ Celebration Summer Picnic, sponsored by the Upper Delaware Valley Cancer Center (UDVCC).

The picnic, held this year at the Best Western Inn at Hunt’s Landing, featured a summer food buffet, live entertainment, and health and wellness information. Many of the guests are, or recently have been, patients of Dr. Michael J. Gallagher, Medical Director of the Upper Delaware Valley Cancer Center, who stressed the importance of celebrating survival, as well as maintaining a focus on education and cancer prevention.

The UDVCC treats patients in Pike, Wayne and Orange counties, and will be sponsoring many upcoming workshops on all aspects of cancer treatment and prevention.
