These golfers are on track

MONTICELLO — Naugatuck, CT policeman, Dave Reilly, fired a one over par 72 to win the low gross trophy in the latest Monticello Raceway Whack-N-Track Golf Tournament, at the Villa Roma Country Club in Callicoon on August 7. Low net honors went to Brookfield, CT high school student, Mark Williams, whose gross 76 was adjusted by the Callaway System to a 69.

Nick Roberto, a retired golf pro from Greenwich, CT’s Bruce Golf Course, was runner-up in gross score with a 75. Mark Williams was third best with a 76.

Cal Derula, a retired marine policeman from Greenwich, CT had the second best net score with a 71, followed by Waterbury, CT school teacher, Mark Magas’s 72.

The next Whack-N-Track outing will be Tuesday, August 26 at the Championship Big G Course at Grossingers in Liberty, NY. At a cost of $99, the entire golf package includes a continental breakfast, golf cart, greens fees and lunch at the clubhouse, along with free admission, a free official race program at the track and dinner at Carpenito’s Restaurant after the races.

4-H round-up

HONESDALE — The 2001 4-H Horse and Pony Round-up was held on July 28 at the Wayne County Fairgrounds in the new arena. The event showcased 74 equestrians as they competed with their horses and ponies in English, Western and Gymkhana events.

The following riders moved on to the district show in several classes. Jennifer Adamitis, riding “Ginger,” will be competing in nine classes. Christina Newport, riding “Good Boy Zip,” Renee Rossbach, riding “ Sammy Tivio,” and Lindsay Wagner, riding “ Delux Blue Lady,” will be competing in the District III show in six classes. Kendra Merrigan, riding “Flashy’s Ez Money,” will be competing in the District III show in five classes.






The British are coming;
the British are coming

MONTICELLO —Well, at least those of English heritage when, on August 26, the Monticello Raceway presents its seventh leg of the season-long events for drivers of different ethnic backgrounds, dubbed The Heritage Pacing Series.

Drivers of British heritage are needed to compete in the Mayflower Pace. The winning driver of this event will represent the “Brits” in the United Nations Pace, the finale of the series on October 26.
