Share the
progress
By KIMBERLY M. WEYANDT
Back in grade school we were taught to share, and
in middle school we learned how to work together to solve problems.
A big part of working together is, of course, sharing ideas, thoughts
and knowledge.
Living in a small town like Narrowsburg is a lot
like being back in middle school. If we refuse to share, then the
town as a whole will suffer, but by working as a team we can join
in our town’s victories as well as defeats.
For 25 years the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance
(DVAA) has been a vital part of the community. On Friday, August
24 the DVAA invites the community to celebrate the third and final
phase of its second floor expansion project. The $160,000 project
has increased the Arts Center’s space by 1,500 square feet and an
elevator has been added to provide access between the first and
second floors. The ceremony will begin at 6:00 p.m., with a ribbon-
cutting and the dedication of the elevator to the memory of the
late Jane Bodenstein. Tours run until 8:00 p.m., and there will
also be an art exhibition. Refreshments will be provided.
As summer comes to a close and the colorful curtain
of fall begins to descend, the Delaware Valley Opera presents its
fifth annual Opera Gala. The Gala will be held on August 25 at 8:00
p.m., at the Tusten Theater. This will be the night to hear favorite
arias and ensembles from your favorite operas. A champagne reception
will be held downstairs at the theater after the concert. The Opera
Gala will feature Marshal Cooper, among other highly-acclaimed talents.
Cooper is a tenor, who sang in Germany for 18 years and has recently
returned to the USA and joined the roster of Delaware Valley Opera.
In getting ready for the fall season, Fort Delaware
presents “Celebration of the Harvest.” Help harvest the garden and
learn how to prepare for the winter season ahead. The harvest will
be held on Saturday and Sunday, August 25 and 26 from 10:00 a.m.
to 5:30 p.m.
Information about most of the above events appears
elsewhere in this issue of TRR. Questions about other local
arts activities? Call the DVAA, your arts connection, at 845/252-7576.
