They weren’t
there?
BETHEL — What was billed as a multi-family yard
sale sure looked like a Woodstock reunion to most people.
While not as large as in past years, the spontaneous
gathering that took place on August 17, 18 and 19 at the old Yasgur
farmhouse now owned by Roy Howard and Jeryl Abramson still served
as a point of gathering for over 2,000 people seeking to reclaim
the Woodstock spirit. Food, t-shirt and crafts vendors did brisk
business while impromptu jam sessions sprung up across the property.
Unlike last year’s non-event, there was no main
stage or major sound system. In fact, the most complete music venue
arrived courtesy of the Gerry Davis band from Orlando, Florida.
“We weren’t sure we were going to have a place to play,” said band
member Raymond Krugh. They were turned away three times before they
were let in Friday afternoon.
Krugh and his band weren’t the only ones turned
away. Many who wouldn’t foot the $20 charge asked for by volunteers
directing traffic found themselves looking for another place to
stay.
