CHRISTOPHER ANDREW BARTSCH
SHOHOLA — Christopher Andrew Bartsch
of Shohola, a fourth grade student at Shohola Elementary School
and a lifelong area resident, died Wednesday, July 18, 2001 at Geisinger
Medical Center in Danville. He was 10.
Son of Kathleen Mazellan
Bartsch and the late Andrew Bartsch,
he was born December 19, 1990 in Honesdale.
He was a member of St. Ann’s R.C.
Church in Shohola, the Shohola Rod & Gun Club, Delaware Valley
Babe Ruth Baseball and PAYAL football.
Survivors include his mother; a brother, Brian;
a sister, Jessica, all at home; paternal grandparents, Frederick
and Ingrid Bartsch of Greeley; maternal grandfather, Jack Mazellan of South Plainfield, NJ; two great-grandmothers,
Gertrude Bartsch and Hedwig Neuhaus,
both of Greeley; aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
The family will receive friends at the Shohola Fire
Hall on Saturday, July 28 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. A memorial service
will be held at 2:30 p.m. The Rev. David W. Cramer will officiate.

PAULINE T. FASCESKI
WAYMART — Pauline T. Fasceski
of Wayne Woodlands Manor in Waymart, formerly of Rileyville
and Honesdale, died unexpectedly Friday, July 13, 2001 at Wayne
Memorial Hospital Emergency Room. She was 95.
Daughter of the late Michael and Hedwig Lepisko
Murzynski, she was born in Poland. She
was the widow of Alexander Fasceski.
She attended St. Joseph’s Church in Rileyville;
was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society; and did housekeeping
for the church. After her husband’s death, she moved to Honesdale
and was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish and its Altar
and Rosary Society; and was a member of the Catholic Daughters of
the Americas Court St. Martin in Honesdale.
Survivors include two sons, Frank of Edison, NJ
and Joseph and wife Yoneko of Sterling,
VA; a daughter-in-law, Margaret Della Fasceski
of Rileyville; a sister, Francis Kresovic
and husband Francis of Sewarren, NJ; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren;
four great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two sons, Edward and Alex;
two brothers, Walter and John; two sisters, Mary and Monica; a daughter-in-law,
Jean and a great-grandson, Stephen.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St.
Mary Magdalen’s Church in Honesdale. Burial was in Sacred Heart
Cemetery in Jermyn.

LOUIS KLEFFMANN
BEACH LAKE — Louis Kleffmann
of Beach Lake, a farmer and retired employee of SJ
Bailey & Son Furniture Factory who also worked for the PA Department
of Highways, a 75-year area resident, died Monday, July 23, 2001
at Wayne Woodlands Manor in Waymart. He was 84.
Son of Louis C. and Dorothy Reineke
Kleffmann, he was born on November 8,
1916 in North Bergen, NJ.
He was a former leader for the Boy Scouts of America
and a past member of the Masons. He was a member of the National
Rifle Association and was a skilled woodworker.
Survivors include his wife, Eleanor, at home; two
daughters, Barbara Conklin of Milanville
and Carole Giles of Poyntelle; three grandchildren, Dale, Tammy and Nathan; and
a great-granddaughter, Amilia.
Services were held at Rasmussen
Sons Inc. Funeral Home in Narrowsburg. The Rev. Duane Giles
officiated. Burial was in Calkins Cemetery in Milanville.

HOWARD FRAUENBERG
HAWLEY — Howard Frauenberg
of Hawley, a former partner of a Wholesale Fish Dealer for R.J.
Comilus Co. at the Fulton Fish Market, died unexpectedly Tuesday,
July 17, 2001 in Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale. He was 82.
Son of the late Louis Frauenberg
and Blanche Dumphy Frauenberg,
he was born in Brooklyn, NY.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in
the Pacific Theatre. He was a former member of Knights of Columbus
and Elks club in Long Island, NY. He was a member of the Queen of
Peace R.C. Church in Hawley.
Survivors include his wife, Lillian Margaret Rettig Frauenberg; three sons, Bill
Hansen of Southold, NY, Jim Frauenberg
of Columbus, OH and Ray Frauenberg of
Sheepshead Bay in Brooklyn, NY; three daughters, Jane Snow
of St. Petersburg, FL, Joan of Douglaston, NY, Pat Bzyk
of Little Neck, NY; a cousin, Estelle Sullivan of Jamesburg, NJ;
nine grandchildren; a great-grandson; and nieces.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Loretta; and
a daughter, Marianne.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated at Queen of Peace
R.C. Church in Hawley. The Rev. William B. Healey, pastor,
officiated. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

HONESDALE — Marion Katherine Obser
Kless of Honesdale, a former worker for the Katz Company in
Honesdale, died unexpectedly Monday, July 16, 2001 at Lake Adventure.
She was 75.
Daughter of the late Joseph and Alice Oxford Obser, she was born in Brooklyn, NY. She was the widow of
Robert Joseph Kless.
She was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church
in Brooklyn; and a member of the Joseph B. Garity
American Legion Post in Ridgewood, Queens, NY where she served as
president of the auxiliary.
Survivors include a son, Robert M. of Bayside, Queens,
NY; two daughters, Diane Robertson of Glendale, NY and Eileen Licari
of North Belmore, Long Island, NY; a brother,
Harry Obser of Ozone Park, NY; three sisters, Florence Wygand of Woodhaven, NY, Dorothy Hugo of Houston, TX and Sally
Watson of California; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren;
nieces and nephews.
Services were held at the Hessling
Funeral Home in Honesdale. The Rev. Kenneth Buckwalter,
pastor of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, officiated. Burial
was in St. Mary Magdalen’s Cemetery in
Honesdale.
JUDITH MESSENGER
MONTICELLO — Judith Messenger of Monticello, a 40-year
area resident, and a secretary for the Town of Thompson Supervisor,
died Saturday, July 14, 2001 at home. She was 56.
Daughter of Helene Ostrowski
Lindstadt and the late Edward Lindstadt,
she was born April 18, 1945 in Queens.
She was a member of St. Peter’s R.C.
Church in Monticello.
Survivors include her husband, LeRoy
Messenger, at home; her mother, of Smallwood; a daughter, Jamie
Yonker of Monticello; a brother, Edward Lindstadt,
Jr. of Monticello; a niece; a nephew; and aunts and uncles.
Graveside services were held at the family plot
at the Messenger Cemetery in Monticello.

ROBERT NELSON
EQUINUNK — Robert Nelson
of Equinunk, a former clerk at Evergreen Cemetery in Brooklyn,
and a longtime area resident, died Tuesday, July 17, 2001 at Wayne
Memorial Hospital in Honesdale. He was 84.
Son of the late Morris and Frances Newlin
Nelson, he was born September 24, 1916 in Brooklyn, NY.
He was a US Army veteran and a staff sergeant. He
was owner of The Colonial Craftsman shop.
Burial was in Stockport Cemetery in Stockport, PA.
EPHRAIM REYTBLAT
WHITE LAKE — Ephraim Reytblat
of White Lake, a 15-year area resident, died Friday, July 13, 2001
at home. He was 89.
Son of the late Avrohom
Moshe and Bonya Reytblat, he was born in June
1912 in Riga, Latvia. He was the widower of Dinah Reytblat.
He was a member of the White Lake Synagogue.
Survivors include two sons, David and Boris, both
of Brooklyn; two daughters, Ella and Fanya;
two sisters, Genya and Khinia;
nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews,
all of Brooklyn.
Services were held at Yablokoff
Kingsway Memorial Chapel in Brooklyn. Rabbi Samuel Fishbain
officiated. Burial was at Old Montefiore
Cemetery in Long Island.

MONTICELLO — J.B. Simmons
of Monticello, an employee of the Bagel Bakery in Monticello, died
Thursday, July 12, 2001 at Community General Hospital in Harris.
He was 54.
Son of Arthur Simmons and the late Jesse Mae Giles,
he was born September 17, 1946 in Greenville, AL.
Survivors include his father of Greenville, AL;
his companion, Donna Terpening; nine daughters,
Alice, Robin Prudent, Sherry Pace, Kizzy
Greene and Wanda Pace Edwards, all of Monticello, Shanova
Merchant of South Fallsburg, Jessica Simmons of Queens, Xavier of
Philadelphia and Gloria Colon of New Jersey; five sons, Willie Pace
of Monticello, Mustafa Muhammed of Sayerville, NJ, Shawn
Barnes of Livingston Manor, Sammy VanDunk
of Upstate, NY and Jimmy Colon of Livingston Manor; a godson, Michael
Cloud; 10 brothers; 12 sisters; 17 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter;
nieces nephews and cousins.
Services were held at the VanInwegen-Kenny
Funeral Home in Monticello. The Rev. Willie Smith officiated. Burial
was in Rock Ridge Cemetery in Monticello.
RICHARD O. THEYS
HONESDALE — Richard O. Theys
of Honesdale, a deputy sheriff for the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department
since 1988, died Thursday, July 19, 2001 at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
He was 58.
Son of the late Otto F. and Herda
H. Kerberg Theys,
he was born June 4, 1943 in Jersey City, NJ.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church
in Honesdale; a member of the Deputy Sheriff’s Association; he coordinated
the March of Dimes Cancer Walk in Honesdale; he was a member of
the National Rifle Association; a former member of the Independence
Township Fire Department Rescue Squad; and was a constable in Independence
Township
Survivors include his former wife, Carol Krotz
of Hackettstown, NJ; three daughters, Donna Applegate of Hackettstown,
NJ, Lisa Hoffman of Budd Lake, NJ, Jennifer DeYoung
of Hackettstown, NJ; two brothers, George and Martin, both of Stillwater,
NJ; a sister, Patricia Thompson of Rocky Hill, CT; and three grandchildren;
Jake, Hannah and Hunter.
Services were held at the Cochran Funeral Home in
Hackettstown, NJ. Burial was in Stillwater Cemetery in Stillwater,
NJ.

EDWARD THOMAS ZELONIS
HONESDALE — Edward Thomas Zelonis
of Honesdale, owner and operator of a dairy farm in Dyberry
Township, died Tuesday, July 17, 2001 at home. He was 83.
Son of the late Peter P. and Kathryn A. Bakes Zelonis, he was born April 18, 1918 in Archbald,
PA.
He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish
in Honesdale.
Survivors include a nephew whom he raised, Paul
Gombita and wife Carol, with whom he resided; a great-niece,
Trisha; a great-nephew, Paul, Jr.; great-great-niece, Zoey; a brother, Joseph of Montgomery, NY; a sister-in-law,
Ethel of Torrington, CT; a nephew, John, Jr.; and a niece, Joan
Buchanni.
He was predeceased by two brothers, John and Charles;
and a sister, Helen Gombita.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Mary
Magdalen’s Church in Honesdale. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
