Narrowsburg celebrates the Fourth of July

Story and photos by TOM KANE

Narrowsburg neighbors pose for a picture following the close Fourth of July community softball game, played on the flats. The final score was 10-8. The ages of the players ranged from Rich O’Brien, 56, to Amber Cookingham, 8. Amber even got a hit.

“It was a close, hard-fought game,” said Steve Daley, Jr., who played first base for team 1 and got a couple of hits. (Click photo for larger image)

Charlie Clouse, four, holds down Narrowsburg Fourth of July parade balloons. The parade was held at noon through town. His mother, Tusten Cochecton librarian Mary Page Lang-Clouse, organized the game, a Sullivan Rennaissance activity.

The beautification group involves more than planting flowers, she said. “We’re building community.” (Click photo for larger image)

Spectators and players during the Narrowsburg community softball game, held July Fourth on the flats, get to know each other and cheer for their team.

“We should do this regularly, it’s great,” said Narrowsburg resident Gregg Del Mauro. “We’re not so great playing softball but that’s not what this is all about.” (Click photo for larger image)
