Beware of ‘funny’ money in the region

RIVER VALLEY — Police last week reported the appearance in the region of counterfeit money in two denominations.

Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department deputies recovered three fake $20 bills. The bills were said to have been of a quality good enough to pass cursory inspection during brisk business, but printed on suspect paper. Recovered bills included serial numbers AB34875922G and AF75620924G. Police believe the bills originated in New York City.

In Orange County, two Connecticut men were charged last week with having $900 in high-quality counterfeit $100 bills that police said originated in Colombia.

The U.S. Secret Service reportedly is involved in both investigations.
