Bethel in brief

By CHRIS CONROY

BETHEL — At the June 28 meeting of the Town of Bethel Town Board, the board:

  • Entered into executive session with town attorney Ed Cooke to discuss litigation issues connected to the proposed local law regarding boating and personal watercraft.
  • Announced that it is seeking proposals for an economic development grant in any amount up to $400,000. The grant would come from the Small Cities Program of the Community Development Block Grant Program.
  • Announced that the New York State Department of Transportation is investigating the possibility of placing a traffic light at the intersection of Route 17B and Pine Grove Road, near the Citgo gas station.
  • Resolved to assist the Mongaup Valley-based Dancing Feather Foundation in its search for matching funds for its gazebo project. The board will write a letter to the Sullivan County Planning Department’s Main Street Development Program requesting that the Route 17B location of the gazebo be given special consideration as a Main Street area.
  • Announced that two more properties were cleaned of debris under the town’s clean-up program. Any funds expended in the clean-up process will be levied against the property owner in addition to regular property taxes.
  • Announced it would plant trees and erect a berm to improve the neighborhood’s conditions on Gayle Road, alleviating an ongoing dispute among residents.
  • Approved a salary raise for the White Lake dockmaster.
  • Heard complaints from residents regarding the White Lake Speedway, and resolved to invite the owners of the speedway to the next meeting to discuss solutions.
  • Reminded the public that there would be a joint planning board and town board meeting on July 10 at 7:30 p.m., at the White Lake Fire House, for further discussion of the Gerry Foundation’s development of the performing arts center project.
