Ribbon cutting for veterans hospital

By TRACY DENMAN

MONTICELLO — On June 19, local representative Maurice Hinchey was on hand to cut the ribbon for the new Sullivan County Veterans Service Agency.

Originally, the veterans hospital was located in Harris Hospital. The new building at the Monticello location cost less than $25,000, and has been up and running since last August. With this new location, veterans no longer have to travel as far, and they have access to outpatient treatment programs rather than having to register at Harris, officials said.

Eric Nystrom, director of the Sullivan County Veterans Service Agency, said he was pleased about having a permanent physician, Dr. Amhammad Rehmani, on staff.

The new unit provides primary care for optometry and pediatry. The new unit can be reached at 845/791-4936 on Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.
