Riding to win

WAVERLY — On June 17 Sarah Lander, from Narrowsburg, and Misty Whitby, of Beach Lake, attended the Double A Horse Show in Waverly, PA with Grandview Farms. Lander was riding Double Stuffed, a mixed Welsh pony. Whitby was riding Misty’s Dream, also a mixed Welsh pony.

Whitby won first place in Model Pony, fourth place in the Mini Stirrup Equitation division, second place in the Mini Stirrup Pleasure division and second place in the Hunter Under Saddle division. She also won reserved champion for the three Mini Stirrup divisions.

Lander won second place in Model Pony, first place in Mini Stirrup Equitation division and fourth place in the Mini Stirrup Hunter Under Saddle division. The girls competed against 15 other riders in the three Mini Stirrup Divisions.






Summer soccer

HONESDALE — The Screaming Eagles Soccer Camp, which will be held June 25 through June 29 at Lakeside Elementary School, is still accepting registrations for the summer session. The camp is open to players ages five through 18.

Players ages five through 14 will have their sessions Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. All players who are in high school or are going into high school this coming fall will have their sessions held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.

The camp is directed by Isang Jacob, a former professional player who is now an assistant coach at IUPUI in Indianapolis, Indiana. Jacob was an All American soccer player at Indiana Wesleyan and his most recent professional accomplishment was being a member of the Indiana Blast of the “A” League. The camp will be staffed by both high school and college coaches along with Florence Omagbemi, the captain of the Nigerian Women’s National Team that participated in the 2000 Olympics.

Tee off with the Big Arm

PROMPTON LAKE — The third annual Big Arm Classic Pro Am Disc Golf tournament is scheduled for Sunday, July 8 at the Promptom Lake Disc Golf Course. Registration and check in will run from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. At 9:30 a.m. there will be a players meeting and tee off for the first round is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. The second round should begin at approximately 1:00 p.m.

This year’s Big Arm is sanctioned by the Professional Disc Golf Association and is part of Mid Atlantic B Series. This means that professional and advanced amateur players who do well in the tournament will earn points to help qualify for next year’s World Championship as well as this year’s Mid Atlantic Championship.

All participants will receive a player’ package that will include a t-shirt with the Big Arm logo and an Innova professional golf disc. Amateurs will be competing for prizes and trophies while the pros will be competing for a hefty cash purse that can inspire spectacular shots.
