Down on
the Farm Day postponed
LIBERTY — Due to concerns over the outbreak of
Foot and Mouth Disease in England and Europe, the Agricultural Program
Committee of Cornell Cooperative Extension of Sullivan County has
decided not to present Down on the Farm Day this year. Given the large number of visitors
from outside the area that attend this event and the difficulty
in providing bio-security to the host farm, it was decided that
in the best interest of animal agriculture to not hold the event
this year. The Agricultural Program Committee feels that it is better
to be cautious than to put the county at risk. Should this disease
gain a foothold in this country the effects would be catastrophic
in terms of animal agriculture, the agricultural economy and the
livelihood of thousands of farm families.
