ECS teachers
honored
GLEN SPEY — The Tusten-Highland VFW last week honored
two Eldred Central School teachers for their efforts in fostering
student patriotism and citizenship. Pictured at the presentation
at the June 14 board of education meeting are honorees, high school
English instructor Regina Campbell, left, and MacKenzie Elementary
sixth-grade teacher Linda Hazen, right, with VFW presenter Ken Reuter.
At the year-end session Superintendent Candace
Mazur noted that as many new hirings as possible were being done
early since new state law requires fingerprinting and background
checks of new employees this year. With a statewide backlog possible,
“If they don’t clear by September, we’ll have to use substitutes,”
she said.
During the public comment period, Elaine Kuhn complained
that the names of many of the volunteers involved in producing this
year’s school musical were omitted in the school newsletter and
one paid employee was listed as a volunteer.
In addition to those mentioned in the newsletter
Kuhn named: Linda Borstelman, Bob Burrow, Randi Robinson, Jessica
Reiser and herself.
Mazur apologized for the oversight.
The board scheduled its annual meeting and reorganization
for July 3, at the secondary school library.
