LACKAWAXEN — Bugs on
the windshield are a messy nuisance, but bigger natural aviation
can be hazardous.

on the night of June 17, causing him to lose control of his vehicle.

Lackawaxen Township.
Capelli
a no-show again
MONTICELLO — Sullivan legislators again were left
wondering about the capricious schedule of the developer of the
new Concord resort.
Louis Capelli was scheduled
to address legislators at their June 14 Executive Committee meeting,
but he cancelled, again. This is the third time in recent month’s
that Capelli has bowed out of legislative
appearances that he had requested. “I called down there, but I couldn’t
reach him,” chairman Rusty Pomeroy (D-3) told the committee.
With bright sun reflecting outside the meeting
room, Jodi Goodman (RC-6)commented, “Maybe
it was the rain...”
Disease
fear cancels
Down on the Farm Day
LIBERTY — Concern about the possible spread of
a serious livestock disease has prompted cancellation of this summer’s
annual “Down on the Farm Day,” program.
Cornell Cooperative Extension Executive Director
Judy Essex said the program attracts of to 2000 visitors annually
and Sullivan County hosts many international visitors in the summer.
With hoof and mouth disease, which is often spread by the soil on
shoes, ravaging European livestock, Essex said organizers wanted
to take no chances.

Governor
not coming to Kohl’s
WURTSBORO — Plans for Governor George Pataki to
attend a July welcoming ceremony for Kohl’s distribution warehouse
were canceled Tuesday because the governor had to rearrange his
schedule.
The cancellation prompted the Sullivan County Partnership
to reschedule what was billed as a belated ground breaking ceremony.
The 500 thousand square foot warehouse will eventually
employ up to 900 people and will serve as a main hub for Kohl’s
Department Stores throughout the northeast United States.
