BERNADETTA WAYMAN BUCKSBEE

CARBONDALE — Bernadettta Wayman Bucksbee of Carbondale, died June 4, 2001 at Community Medical Center in Scranton.

Daughter of the late Harvey and Ethel Warner Wayman, she was born in Susquehanna. She was the widow of Ruben Bucksbee.

She was a member of the Pillar of Fire Church in Lords Valley.

Survivors include five sons, Ruben of Ledgedale, Francis of Barryville, NY, Roger of Milford, Lee of Carbondale and Paul of Nicholson; four daughters, Dolores Karr of Hamlin, Bernadine Heimbrook of Shohola, Barbara Hockenberry of Newville, Darlene Schuman of Honesdale; four brothers, Harvey Wayman of Hallstead, Duane Wayman of Liberty, Robert of Susquehanna and Harrold Wayman of Oakland; a sister, Anna Wilmot of Susquehanna; 31 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, Ronald; and a sister, Alberta.

Services were held at Teeters’s East Chapel in Hawley. The Rev. Martin L. Cox, Jr., pastor of the Hawley United Methodist Church, officiated. Burial was in Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Kimbles.

BRIGITTE KUCH BENZ

HAWLEY — Brigitte Kuch Benz of Hawley, a former head cook for Schraff’s in New York City, died Monday, June 4, 2001 at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center in Honesdale.

Daughter of the late Gottfried and Karoline Kuch, she was born in Lahr, Germany. She was the widow of Max Benz.

She was of the Roman Catholic faith.

Surviving is a daughter, Bunnie Benz of Hawley.

Cremation was held at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory.

GEORGETTE CHRISTOFF

YOUNGSVILLE — Georgette Christoff of Youngsville, a retired bookkeeper for Coca-Cola in Monticello, died Monday, May 28, 2001 at the Hamilton General Hospital in Ontario, Canada. She was 77.

Daughter of the late John and Julia Radvonousky Christoff, she was born November 18, 1923 in Brooklyn.

She was a member of the Young at Heart Senior Citizens of Jeffersonville and their bingo group; the Delaware Valley Senior Citizens in Callicoon; and was named the Town of Callicoon Senior Citizen of the year in 1999. She arranged the trips for the Jeffersonville Senior Citizens and was on one of those trips when she became ill.

Survivors include a sister, Pauline Orr of Youngsville; two brothers, John of Jeffersonville and William of Youngsville; nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother, Robert; and a sister, Madeline Rhodes.

Services were held at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Jeffersonville. Burial was in Greenhill Cemetery in Youngsville.

THEODORE HOFSTEE

PORT JERVIS — Theodore Hofstee of Port Jervis, a retired dairy farmer, owner and operator of the VanInwegen Dairy Farm in Port Jervis, and a longtime area resident, died Wednesday, June 6, 2001 at home. He was 76.

Son of the late Yme and Hermana DeGroot Hofstee, he was born in Eesterga, Holland.

He was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Sussex, NJ and an associate member of the Sussex Christian School Society in Sussex.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Greidanus, at home; six daughters, Margaret VanDenberg and husband Peter of Elk Rapids, MI, Hermina VanEldren and husband Michael of Shelbyville, MI, Cora Kuiper and husband Daniel of Grand Rapids, MI, Kathy Hanse and husband Brian of Pompton Plains, NJ, Frances Miedema and husband Folkert of Barrhead, Alberta, Canada, and Elizabeth Van Heyst and husband Ted of Brandon, Manitoba, Canada; a son, Edward and wife Carol of Port Jervis; a brother, Edward of Bethel; a sister, Klaasje Poldervaart of Holland; 21 grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two sons, Jay and Edward; and three brothers.

Services were held at the Christian Reformed Church in Sussex, NJ. The Rev. John Keizer officiated. Burial was in the Clove Cemetery in Wantage, NJ.

WILLIAM H. HOHEUSLE

NARROWSBURG — William H. “Dutch” Hoheusle of Narrowsburg, a 15-year area resident, died Monday, May 28, 2001 in the Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale, PA. He was 44.

Son of Margeline Mazzara Hoheusle and the late William J. Hoheusle, he was born May 11, 1957 in Brooklyn.

Survivors include his mother, of Narrowsburg; his companion, Jo Ann Brajuka; a sister, Gale Shaffer of Narrowsburg; three daughters; nieces and nephews.

Services were held at Rasmussen Sons Funeral Home in Narrowsburg. The Rev. Phyllis Haynes officiated. Cremation was at the Twin Tiers Crematory in Endicott.

EDWARD JOSEPH KOPF

WELCOME LAKE  Edward Joseph Kopf of Welcome Lake, PA, a retired pattern and model maker for Gentex in Carbondale, and a 28-year area resident, died Friday, June 1, 2001 at home. He was 83.

Son of Kazmir and Pauline Wilhelm Kopf, he was born March 19, 1918 in Brooklyn. His first wife, Sabina Warszycki Kopf, died in 1985.

He was an excellent wood carver of wild game.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Kopf, at home; a son, Kenneth and wife Linda of Stoney Brook, NY; three step-children, Charles Foulds, Deborah Foulds and Laura Gillespie, all of College Point, Queens, NY; a sister, Helen Weydner of Indian Lake, NY; a brother, Kazmir of California; two grandsons, Craig and Todd; four step-grandsons, Sean, Danny, Brian and Charlie and a step-granddaughter, Michelle, all of College Point, Queens, NY; nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church in Beach Lake. The Rev. Michael Marchetti officiated. Burial was in St. Francis Cemetery in Narrowsburg, NY.

GEORGE L. LAKIN

WHITE LAKE — George L. Lakin of White Lake, a truck driver for the Wyde Lumber Company in Monticello and a 15-year area resident, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001 at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. He was 63.

Son of the late Leonard and Arvilla Smith Lakin, he was born April 24, 1938 in Bainbridge.

He was retired from the Teamsters Local #282 in Long Island. He was a member of the White Lake Reformed Presbyterian Church and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1955 to 1963.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria Masorianni Lakin, at home; four sons, George Drexel of Cleveland, NC, Anthony Drexel of Livermore Falls, Maine, Larry Drexel of Farmingville and Tony Tucker of Huntington; two daughters, Catherine Guff of Port Gibson, MS and Mrs. Paul Sangiovanni of Huntington; two brothers, Leonard “Sonny” of Middletown and Ronald “Butch” of Ellenville; four sisters, Ruth of Middletown, Christine Damms of Ellenville, Carol Herthe of Napanoch and Marie Kilter of Pine Hill; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Services were held at the Ramsay’s Funeral Home in Monticello. Burial was in the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty.

DAVID LUTMAN

LOCH SHELDRAKE — David Lutman of Loch Sheldrake, a former trainer and driver at the Monticello Raceway, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001 in New York City. He was 41.

Son of Peter, Sr. and Eleanor Elmore Lutman, he was born May 4, 1960 in Orlando, FL.

He was a member of the Harness Horsemen’s Association of Monticello and the United States Trotters Association.

Survivors include his parents of Loch Sheldrake; a brother, Peter, Jr. and wife Sherri of Monticello; his companion, Sherryl Eggleston of Monticello; his paternal grandfather, Victor of Exter, Ontario, Canada; an aunt and uncle, Peggy and Harold Schroeder of Houston, TX; and two nephews, Jimmy Shields and P.J. Lutman III.

He was predeceased by his grandparents, Wilda Lutman and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Walton.

Services were held at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home in Monticello. Burial was in the Rock Ridge Cemetery in Monticello.

WILLIAM MARCH

GLEY SPEY — William March of Glen Spey, a retired stonemason and 30-year area resident, died Wednesday, May 16, 2001 at Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis. He was 77.

Son of the late Peter and Evokia Litnanski March, he was born August 26, 1923 in the Ukraine.

He was a member of St. Volodymyr’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Glen Spey.

Survivors include his wife, Evokia Dolgech March at home; two daughters, Maria Babanskyj of Indiana and Lillian Komienko of Lafayette, NJ; two sisters in the Ukraine; and four grandchildren.

A Liturgy Mass was offered at St. Volodymyr’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Glen Spey. The Rev. Olesksa Kostyk officiated. Burial was in the Glen Spey Cemetery.

JOSEPH P. MIANO

TAMPA, FL — Joseph Paul Miano of Tampa, FL, a former resident of Callicoon and Bullville, NY died Friday, May 25, 2001 in Tampa. He was 74.

He was a World War II Navy veteran and a teamster; he was a member of the Naval Reserve, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Miano, at home; eight children, Douglas of Miami, Linda Dickman of Cuddebackville, Jeffrey of Wawarsing, Pamela of Bloomingburg, Laurie of Swan Lake, Janice of Coldenham, Tina Mason of Tampa and Joseph, Jr. of Binghamton; 10 grandchildren; four sisters; and one brother.

JOHN R. MULDOWNEY

BARRYVILLE — John R. Muldowney of Barryville, a retired certified public accountant and a longtime area resident, died Monday, June 4, 2001 at the Regency Park Nursing Center. He was 92.

Son of the late Thomas and Catherine Thane Muldowney, he was born April 3, 1909 in Scranton, PA. His first wife, Dorothy Byrnes Muldowney, died in 1980.

He was a lifetime member of the American Institute of CPA’s; a lifetime member of New York Society of CPA’s; a member of the Knights of Columbus; and a member of the Lackawaxen Missions Men’s Club. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving as a Lieutenant junior grade.

Survivors include his wife, Catherine Muldowney of Barryville; three sons, John of West Palm Beach, FL, Joseph of Lincroft, NJ and Edward of Barryville; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Resurrection was offered at St. Ann’s R.C. Church in Shohola, PA. The Rev. David W. Cramer officiated. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

FRANCES M. NEWMAN

CALLICOON — Frances M. Newman of Callicoon, a homemaker and lifelong area resident, died Saturday, June 9, 2001 in the Roscoe Community Nursing Home in Roscoe. She was 94.

Daughter of the late Frederick and Frances Kille Staesser, she was born August 20, 1906 in Acidalia. She was the widow of George C. Newman.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Obernburg.

Survivors include a daughter, Marie McCabe of Callicoon Center; two sons, Gerald of Bradenton, FL and Fred of Suitland, MD; four grandchildren, Brian and Kelly McCabe, Paul Newman and Kim Chorley; two great-grandchildren, Colleen Ann McCabe and Allison Newman; nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Mary’s Church in Obernburg. The Rev. Gus Richardson officiated. Burial was in Callicoon Center Cemetery.

ROBERT E. POHLE

HONESDALE — Robert E. Pohle of Honesdale, a retired truck driver for the Consolidated Freight Company, died unexpectedly Friday, June 4, 2001 from heart failure in the Wayne Memorial Hospital emergency room.

Son of the late Edgar R. and Regina E. Murtha Pohle, he was born in Honesdale. He was the widower of Sharon C. Frey Pohle.

He was a graduate of Honesdale High School and was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale and a member of the Teamsters Union. He was a former stock car driver at the local racetracks in the area and had once belonged to a motorcycle club.

Survivors include two sons, Nick and Josh, at home; a brother, Thomas and wife Teresa of Scotts Valley, CA; a nephew, Ben; nieces and nephews on the Frey side of the family; aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by his cousin, Rev. Rick Beck in St. John the Evangelist Church in Honesdale. Burial was in St. Mary Magdalen’s Cemetery in Honesdale.

ROBERT RODRIGUES

ORLANDO, FL —Robert Rodrigues of Orlando, FL a retired employee of the construction industry with the Wayne County, PA Redevelopment Authority, died at the Hilton Head Medical Center and Clinics in Hilton Head, SC.

Son of the late Frank and Viola Strubbe Rodrigues, he was born April 25, 1935 in Queens, NY.

He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was an avid golfer; talented vocalist and a loving father.

Survivors include two sons, Robert France and Timothy; a daughter, Deborah Martin; three brothers, Don, George and Frank; a sister, Frances; and a grandson, Ryan Lear.

A memorial service was held at Lake Eola Park in Orlando, FL.

ANTHONY SCHWAB

MONTICELLO — Anthony Schwab of Monticello, a longtime area resident, died Monday, May 28, 2001 in the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla. He was 79.

He was born August 11, 1931 in Chicago, IL.

Survivors include several area friends and some far away relatives.

Services were held at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home in Monticello. The Rev. John Lynch officiated. Burial was in the Bloomingburg Rural Cemetery.
