‘Looking In’ The Looking Glass

By KRISTA GROMALSKI

HAWLEY — “Looking In,” a collection of recent paintings by Leigh Pawling, will be on display at The Looking Glass Gallery & Studio, Ltd. through June 22.

At an opening reception on June 2, Pawling likened her creative process to “a compost of writing and reading….”

Several of her large, acrylic collage works feature Alice in Wonderland-like silverware or hands rich with color. Her paintings, she said, come from her own “inner work… and search for freedom.”

“Looking In” explores the idea of “immersing objects in a background.” The objects have dual purposes, Pawling said. “They are both healing and harmful.”

Gallery owner Juan Espino said the summer 2001 line-up of artists at The Looking Glass will mark his fourth season in Hawley.

“I am pleased to showcase the best of local artists,” Espino said. “The gallery is open to all expressions of art.”
