Former CEO of Cablevision and CEO of Granite Associates,
Alan Gerry, was the keynote speaker. Gerry briefly told the story
of his meteoric rise in the corporate world and offered advise to

Establishing
an alternative school
HONESDALE —People for Children’s Education will
hold a community meeting to discuss the possibility of establishing
an alternative school for children of the Upper Delaware Valley.
The meeting will be held on June 15, at 7:00 p.m., in the Community
Room of the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce, 303 Commercial Street.
People for Children’s Education is a group united
by a common goal to create a lasting center for children’s education
that draws from and builds on the very best our community has to
offer.
Currently, the group is exploring a Montessori-style
approach that will combine one-on-one, independent and group learning
experiences with a low student-teacher ratio. The structure will
allow the educators latitude to accommodate and encourage each child’s
gifts and skills. The curriculum will include math, science, language
and reading as well as music, crafts and outdoor activities. The
atmosphere will encourage children to respect themselves, others
and the world around them.
Initially the school would offer pre-school through
second grade with full-day Kindergarten available.
A supervised craft area will be available at the
meeting for children three and older. For more information call
Michel Legrand or Julia Wittich at 570/224-0719 or Emily Paulsen
at 570/729-8682.
