DAVID DANCHAK
POMPANO BEACH, FL — David Danchak of Pompano Beach,
FL, owner of the Nutshell in Lake Huntington, died Sunday, May 30,
2001 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Miami. He
was 57.
Son of Kathryn Ewonishon Danchak and the late John
Danchak, Sr., he was born October 2, 1943 in Carbondale, PA.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam; a member
of the Hunter Lake Rod and Gun Club and the Sullivan County Chapter
of Vietnam Veterans of America.
Survivors include his mother of Pompano Beach; a
son, David, Jr. of Pompano Beach; a brother, John, Jr., of Lakewood,
PA; a niece and two nephews.
Graveside services and burial with full military
honors were held at the Kenoza Lake Cemetery.

THERESA W. DAVIS
HONESDALE — Theresa W. Davis (“Tee”) of Honesdale,
a former partner-owner of the JJ Boyle accounting firm, died Sunday,
May 20, 2001 in Honesdale. She was 86.
Daughter of Friedrich Wenzel and Lena Schmitz Wenzel,
she was born December 4, 1911 in Auburn, NY. She was the widow of
Mr. Davis.
She was a lifelong communicant of St. Alphonsus
R.C. Church of Auburn and then a member of St. John’s parish in
Honesdale.
Survivors include her children, David L. and Barbara
Larkin, both of Orland, Maine, Susan of Bucksport, Maine, William
F. of Honesdale; her children’s partners, Virginia, William Larkin,
Audrey Davis Pellagra, Mary Jane Bush and Joanne K., who cared for
her during the six years she lived in Honesdale; 12 grandchildren;
14 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a son, Peter R.H.
A funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Mary’s Church
in Honesdale. A graveside service was held at St. Joseph’s cemetery
in Auburn, NY.
FRANCIS FLOOD
MONTICELLO — Francis Flood of Monticello, a retired
bartender at the Carlton Hotel in Monticello and a longtime area
resident, died Monday, May 21, 2001 at the Seelig Division of Community
General Hospital in Harris. He was 64.
Son of the late John and Mary Anna Boylan Flood,
he was born August 12, 1936 in the Bronx.
Survivors include a stepson, Harvey Ketcham of Monticello;
and several caring and dear friends.
Services were held at Ramsay’s Funeral Home in Monticello.
The Rev. John Lynch officiated. Burial was in the Liberty Cemetery.
EDITH ELLEN SMITH HITTY
HONESDALE — Edith Ellen Smith Hitty of Honesdale,
a retired employee of the Julia Ribaudo Home and a lifelong area
resident, died Monday, May 21, 2001 at the Julia Ribaudo Home in
Lake Ariel. She was 67.
Daughter of the late Arthur E.T. and Stella Comfort
Smith, she was born January 24, 1934 in Honesdale.
She had been employed by the former Peters 5 &
10 Cents Store, the former Katz Underwear Company in Honesdale,
and Cove Haven Resort in Lakeville.
She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish
in Honesdale and its Altar and Rosary Society and had been a counselor
for the Junior Catholic Daughters.
Survivors include her husband Thomas John Hitty;
a son, Louis and wife Kay of Cherry Ridge; three daughters, Karen
Cobb of Waymart, Maureen Travis, Jr. of Starruca and Mary Anne White,
Jr. of Lake Ariel; two brothers, Tracy of Rochester, NY and Myron
of Allentown; a sister, Shirley Belknap of Honesdale; 11 grandchildren;
a great-grandson; nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered in St. Joseph’s
Church in Forest City. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. John the
Evangelist Parish in Honesdale or the American Diabetes Association.
WILLIAM R. ‘DUTCH’ HOHEUSLE
NARROWSBURG — William R. “Dutch” Hoheusle, a 15-year
resident of the area, died Monday, May 28, 2001 at Wayne Memorial
Hospital in Honesdale, PA. He was 44.
The son of William J. and Margeline Mazzara Hoheusle,
he was born on May 11, 1957 in Brooklyn, NY.
Survivors include his mother, Margeline Hoheusle
of Narrowsburg; his companion, Jo Ann Brajuka; a sister, Gale Shaffer
of Narrowsburg; three daughters; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, May 31,
from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., and from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Rasmussen
Sons Inc. Funeral Home, in Narrowsburg.
Funeral services will follow immediately at 8:00
p.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Phyllis Haynes will officiate.
Cremation will take place at Twin Tiers Crematory
in Endicott, NY.

ELEANOR HILLAND JACOBSEN
WHITE MILLS — Eleanor Hilland Jacobsen of White
Mills, died Wednesday, May 23, 2001 at the Julia Ribaudo Nursing
Home IHS in Lake Ariel. She was 77.
Daughter of Christiffor and Signe Johannsen, she
was born in Brooklyn, NY.
She was a member of the Lutheran faith.
Survivors include two daughters, Lillian Andersen
of White Mills and Linda Russell of Hawley; three sons, Robert of
Colchester, CT, Gerard of Lake Ariel and Kenneth of Lake Ariel;
11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
A private service was held at the convenience of
the family. Cremation took place at the HG Smith Crematory in Stroudsburg.
CARMINE MYERS, SR.
MONGAUP VALLEY – Carmine Myers, Sr. of Mongaup Valley
died Thursday, May 24, 2001 in Community General Hospital in Harris.
He was 44.
Son of the late George Myers, Sr. and Nicholena
Dapolito Myers, he was born August 12, 1956 in the Bronx.
Survivors include a son, Carmine, Jr. of Mongaup
Valley; a daughter, Nicholena of Mongaup Valley; four brothers,
George, Jr., Arthur, Michael and Mark, all of New York City; two
grandchildren; a future grandchild, Carmine Myers III; and his extended
family.
A funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Peter’s Church
in Monticello. Burial was in Bloomingburg Rural Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the National
Kidney Foundation.
HAROLD L. MYERS
HONESDALE — Harold L. Myers of Honesdale, former
employee of the Gamble-Kimble Ice Cream Company, SJ Baily Company
and the Waymart Knit Wear Manufacturing Co., died Wednesday, May
23, 2001 in Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale.
Son of the late Ulysses and Lulu H. Aylesworth Myers,
he was born in Scranton.
He was a member of the Bethany United Methodist
Church. He graduated Honesdale High School, class of 1933 and attended
Penn State University. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II,
serving in the 95th Infantry Division in northern France, the Rhine
land, and central Europe. He received the Bronze Star and was honored
by the French government for service to France during the war.
Survivors include four sons, Frederick H., Richard
C. and Clyde E, all of Hamlin and Clarence N. of Tory, Wayne County;
a sister, Florence Ross of Glenburn; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren;
nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Robert, Howard
and Charles.
Services were held at the James Wilson Funeral Home
in Lake Ariel. Burial with military honors was in the Hamlin Cemetery.
AGNES WHIPPLE
MONTICELLO — Agnes Whipple of Monticello, a homemaker
and longtime area resident, died Wednesday, May 23, 2001 at the
Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. She was
83.
Daughter of the late Charles and Alice Powell Kaempfe,
she was born September 20, 1917 in New York City. She was the widow
of Harry Whipple.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church
of Monticello.
Survivors include two sons, Robert and wife Maureen
and Richard and companion Lucy Bradshaw, all of Monticello; grandchildren;
great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a son, Kenneth.
Services were held at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral
Home in Monticello. Burial was in Rock Hill Cemetery.

ETHEL S. WILLIAMS
HONESDALE — Ethel S. Williams of Honesdale, a lifelong
area resident, died Thursday, May 17, 2001 at Wayne Memorial Hospital
in Honesdale. She was 77.
Daughter of the late Norman and Aldora Kyzer Spangenberg,
she was born in Kimbles. She was the widow of George Williams.
Survivors include three sons, George, David and
Roy, all of Honesdale; three daughters, Darlene Hendershot, Barbara
Landers and Pearl Myers, all of Honesdale; a brother, Edward Spangenberg
of Scranton; five sisters, Tottie Johannes of Cherry Ridge, Doris
Cost of Carbondale, Lois Spangenberg of Lake Cajaw, Leona Schroeder
of Hawley and Carol DeGroat of Honesdale; 12 grandchildren; seven
great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a granddaughter and a son-in-law.
Services were held at the Hessling Funeral Home
in Honesdale. The Rev. Paul Hagendorn officiated. Burial was in
Indian Orchard Cemetery in Texas Township.
