Angela
Daley
My name is Angela Daley. I live in Narrowsburg
and have been married to Steve Daley for 18 years. I have
three children: Stephen, 12, Nicole, 9 and Kristen 5. I graduated
from John Dewey H. S. in Brooklyn. I received an A.A.S. degree
from SUNY Delhi in 1978 and a B.S. degree from Cornell University
in 1980. I have been a self-employed retail business owner
since 1984. My husband and I own Steve’s Country Store and
the Whistle Stop Cafe in Narrowsburg. For three and a half
years I served on the Narrowsburg school board, and I have
served on the Sullivan West school board for the past two
years. I’ve been attending school board meetings for 13 years
and have supported the merger of JY-DV-N. In the past two
years our hopes and dreams for the Sullivan West district
have come dramatically closer to reality. I am privileged
and proud to have played a positive role in that development.
In a few weeks we’ll be breaking ground for the new high school
and renovations for the three buildings will begin. Over the
next few years I will continue to work on the school board
to build a strong infrastructure for our new district, i.e.
adopting responsible budgets and assembling the best and most
creative staff of teachers. The dream of a greatly expanded
curriculum for all students will become a reality. Our children
will have the technology that will allow them to keep pace
with all other students in our country. Being a school board
member is a constant learning experience. Through my experience
I have gained tremendous insight into the functioning of public
education. It has been an honor and a privilege to serve.
I look forward to the challenges and accomplishments of the
future. Please come out and vote on Tuesday, May 15.

Richard
Lander
I have proudly served on the Sullivan West
school board for the past two years and would appreciate your
support on May 15. I am 44 years old and live in Narrowsburg
with my wife Lisa and our four children, Heather, 13, Sarah,
11, Alex, 8 and Richard, 6. I graduated from Narrowsburg Central
School in 1974 and then went on to earn a Bachelor of Science
degree in Accounting from Fairfield University, and am the
owner of Lander’s River Trips and Lander’s River Mart.
I have previously served five years on the
Narrowsburg school board, and was supervisor for the Town
of Tusten for seven years. I’ve been an active member of the
Tusten Volunteer Ambulance and the Narrowsburg Fire Department
for the past 25 years. I am also a member of the Tusten Lions
Club. I have shown my commitment to our communities through
volunteering and helping with fundraising for various organizations.
My vision for the district over the next
three years is to continue to provide a smooth and positive
transition of the three school communities, while giving special
consideration to the students, teachers and administration.
With your help I’d like to continue to oversee the building
of the new high school, as well as the renovations and modernization
of the three existing buildings. Currently serving on the
Sullivan West school board has allowed me to help shape the
future for our children so tha,t, along with facility improvements,
we will improve and expand the curriculum. This will help
our children to succeed in the future. I always appreciate
comments and suggestions on how our communities can continue
to grow together. I ask for your support on election day,
May 15.

Tim
E. Lanese
I am a resident of Youngsville, and my wife
and I have three children attending Sullivan West at Jeffersonville.
I graduated from JYCS in 1978.
I am a first grade religious education teacher
at St. Francis Roman Catholic Church in Youngsville and a
former member of the JYCS Board of Education, from 1996 to
1999.
I am 41 years old and employed by Frontier
Insurance in the shipping and receiving department.
I received an honorable discharge from the
U.S. Navy and served as a lithographer’s mate P class aboard
the U.S.S. John F. Kennedy, CV67.
My vision is to complete what we started
when I was part of the JYCS Board of Education, which is to
see a centrally located high school built and functioning,
to have the needed repairs made to the existing buildings,
to have more community involvement in all aspects and functions
of the school and better lines of communication from the school
to the community. I also believe it’s necessary to make sure
the decisions made now will not have negative repercussions
on the taxpayers later on down the line. I want to make sure
that we can financially support the decisions. We need to
look ahead and make sure the money will still be there when
we need it.

Arthur
Norden
My name is Arthur Norden and I am a candidate
for the school board of the Sullivan West Central School District.
My family and I have been property owners
in the school district for over 30 years. In 1979, I married
Patti Manzolillo (DVCS `73), daughter of Gladys (JYCS `50)
and Libby (JYCS `48). We have three children in the district
in grades three, eight and 10. Our oldest daughter graduated
from the DV campus last year (College of the Holy Cross, ‘04).
After majoring in Business Management at
Stonehill College, I became Supervisor of Educational Services
at New York University Medical Center where I directed a joint
project with the National Institute for Health. I own a consulting
firm that has been serving clients nationally since 1981.
I am a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals
of the Town of Delaware, the Upper Delaware Volunteer Ambulance
Corps, and I am an AYSO coach.
I previously served as chairman of the DVCS
Strategic Planning Committee and in that capacity identified
the issues that confronted our educational system. I also
served as a member of the School Improvement Committee that
evaluated the options of remaining independent or merging
the three districts.
I am running for the school board because
I have serious concerns about two basic issues:
1. The manner in which the present board,
and its administration, has conducted itself with respect
to the rights of residents, students and taxpayers.
2. The financial status of the district as
a result of still undisclosed local expenses associated with
cost of the merger and building project.
This school board needs to spend at least
as much energy on student development as it does on real estate
development. Please vote for me on Tuesday, May 15.

Jerry
Triolo, DDS
My name is Jerry Triolo and I am a resident
of Jeffersonville as well as a dentist. I hold a Master of
Science degree in Education and a Doctorate in Dentistry.
I have been a teacher of Biology and Chemistry for six years
at Clarkstown South High School, in New City, NY. I have been
practicing dentistry in Sullivan County for 17 years, three
years in Monticello and 15 years.
I am age 49 and married with three children:
Nicole, 21, Samantha, 18 and Natalie, 14 Jeffersonville, NY
I helped to form the Jeffersonville Chamber
of Commerce and served two years as treasurer. I have been
a member of the Jeff Lions Club for many years and served
on the JYCS school board for eight years. Some of the goals
I have accomplished and will continue to strive for are increasing
curriculum and accountability within the new district. I have
also been a proponent of fiscal responsibility so that our
children can get the best education within the confines of
our tax base. I have been through two building projects, three
contract negotiations and nine budgets. With all the changes
that are presently occurring, my vast experience could only
be an asset to this district.
I would hope that our community gets out
and votes. Your opinion in your local restaurant does not
count as much as your opinion when you vote.

Ken
Uy
Ken Uy (pronounced “wee”) moved to Callicoon
in August 1999, after 15 years in Monticello, Glen Spey and
Roscoe. He faithfully attends every Sullivan West school board
meeting and actively participates and contributes.
Uy is running for the school board because
he wants to become more directly involved. The merger presents
an opportunity for the district to lay the best possible foundation
for the future. Complex decisions await us, and they will
have far-reaching consequences for our children.
Uy’s platform is simple. The central task
of the board is to establish policy. Board policy governs
the school district and defines goals and expectations for
the administration. The board must have the full support of
the community to be effective.
Uy does not have a specific agenda. He believes
in the best possible results, not the best results possible.
The first allows people to determine for themselves what is
best; the second simply imposes. Self-determination promotes
personal responsibility, acceptance and community.
Uy values his integrity and his independence.
He strives to give full benefit of the doubt. He is open-minded
and willing to consider all views. Uy has already proven his
dedication and interest. Please vote Ken Uy for school board.

Carol
J. Wingert
I am a 38-year-old wife and mother of two
wonderful children. We are residents of Narrowsburg and I
have lived in Narrowsburg all of my life. I have been the
Town of Tusten Tax Collector for 12 years and am currently
serving my second year as Town Clerk. Currently I serve as
the president of the Sullivan County Tax Collectors Association
and have also held the position of vice president in the past.
I have served on the Narrowsburg Central School Shared Decision
Making Committee, and currently serve on the Sullivan West
at Narrowsburg Building Leadership Team. I was a member of
the Narrowsburg Central School Board of Education for three
and a half years. Past activities also include founding the
Tusten Playground Committee and raising funds over a five-year
period for equipment. I also organized the volunteer committee
to install playground equipment at the Narrowsburg School.
Having served as a board of education member
in the past I feel I have experience to draw on. During my
term of office, Narrowsburg faced many challenges. We were
involved in several merger discussions, straw votes, merger
referendums and a referendum for a renovation project at Narrowsburg.
Growing up and attending Narrowsburg Central School I have
an insight as to what life is like in a small rural school,
its assets and its deficits. This merger also brings with
it many assets and it, too, has a few drawbacks.
My goal as a Sullivan West school board member
would be to try to bring to the forefront some of the assets
of our small schools as they were, and to also work on minimizing
the deficits. I have always held a theory that good communication
is key to success in whatever you do, whether it be a marriage,
a career, a parent or volunteer. In my past term as board
member, I tried to communicate on all levels, those including
my constituency, teachers, staff, administration and students.
I care about children and will make decisions based on what
is best for them, not just today, but in the future as well.
The most important thing I can tell you is that I am a hard
working, honest individual who will try her best to make informed
and competent decisions.
I appreciate your support.

Marsha Hunter
I have served as a member of the Eldred Central
School (ECS) Board of Education for five years. During my
tenure I was named board president at the end of my second
year of service and was elected to that position for an additional
year. My son Seth is a graduate of ECS and is currently finishing
his junior year at Skidmore College. He is a product of this
system and is extremely successful in college. I am proud
to be a board member and wish to continue my service.
We have a school system that has been working
over the five years that I’ve been on the board. Our current
board works together, focusing on student success. I want
to make sure that this process continues. We have shaped policy
that will ensure continued student success. Our scores on
the new assessments indicate that our students are on track
to meet the new state requirements.
The board developed goals that are reviewed
annually and incorporated into our comprehensive educational
plan. A mentoring program has been initiated to ease the transition
from the elementary to the junior/senior high school. An energy
performance contract has been approved that will update the
heating, lighting and ventilation at the junior/senior high
school without a capital project. The board reviews student
test data and supports the efforts being made to continually
improve scores. The board is concerned about the percentage
(30 percent) of students graduating with a Regents Diploma.
We need this number to increase.
We, as a board of education, are concerned
about school safety and as a result have approved the purchase
of surveillance equipment, a burglar alarm at Mackenzie, and
a dog search at the junior/senior high school. We will continue
to make this a priority.
There is always more that we can do as a
board. I appreciate any input on any issue. I feel that the
board addresses issues with policy and that we do not micromanage
the district.

Elaine
Kuhn
My name is Elaine Kuhn and I am running for
an open seat on the Eldred Central School (ECS) Board of Education.
I am a 1975 graduate of ECS, I own and operate
my own business, and I am married and have three sons. Currently,
I am a member of the Town of Highland Lions Club, and a member
of the Eldred United Methodist Church, where I have taught
a bible study group.
I have been a pretty constant figure at ECS
for many years. I started 15 years ago as a volunteer aide
in Mrs. Kemble’s first grade class. Since then I have served
in the capacity of Cubmaster for Pack 93, been a den mother,
classroom mother, past president of the PTSO, have made costumes
for the madrigal and the musical, served on the original building
team, and helped the prom committees with reservations and
decorations. I do the hair and makeup for the musical every
year, and serve on the Secondary Building Level Team. Last
year I was the advisor of the class of 2000, and I have been
the fall and winter cheerleading advisor for the last six
years.
As you can see, I am about kids and education.
I would be honored to represent your voice on the board.
