ECS budget,
bus purchases, board seat, go before voters
By DAVID HULSE
ELDRED — Following its approval for the ballot
at a Monday, May 7, public hearing, an $8.92-million Eldred Central
School budget for 2001-02 will go before the voters on May 15.
The budget incorporates a 4.25-percent increase
in spending, largely related to the addition of a new K-12 counselors
position and a new elementary school teachers aide position.
Still lacking crucial state aid figures, the district
is conservatively estimating a 4.73-percent increase in a tax levy,
now estimated at $5.86 million.
A second proposition calls for $180,000 to fund
the purchase of three replacement buses over the next two years.
Incumbent board of education member Marsha Hunter
is seeking re-election and is opposed by Eldred resident and school
activist Elaine Kuhn.
The polls at the Eldred campus will be open from
11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. for the Tuesday voting.
