NARROWSBURG — The judges wore nose glasses and
the winners were chosen by applause-o-meters. And by the end of
the day, there were awards all around at Litterpluck 2001.
The Narrowsburg Central School group picked up
two top honors of Most Unusual Trash found, a Republican Watchman
newspaper plate, and Most Useful Trash found, a mailbox. The Narrowsburg
Girl Scouts received Most Recyclable Award for two bags of returnable
beer bottles. The Vintage Trash category and the 2001 Litterpluck
Champ Award went to the team of Anthony Babb, Jason Mercado, Barbara
Terry and Luis Vasquez of the Delaware Valley Job Corps and Evan
and Jill Padua of Narrowsburg. Forty other people received Awards
of Thanks for participating in Litterpluck 2001 in Narrowsburg.
The event officially began the Narrowsburg Beautification
Group’s bid for Best Community Beautification project in a Sullivan
County contest being held by Sullivan Renaissance. The winning community
will receive a $20,000 beautification grant, with the runner up
receiving one for $10,000.
