Sullivan
West holds
pre-bid meeting for contractors
By TOM KANE
JEFFERSONVILLE — At the April 24 meeting of the
Sullivan West board of education, it was announced that the board
would hold a pre-bid meeting on May 2 for contractors who wish to
bid for construction of the new high school.
Over 45 contractors have expressed interest in
the project, said school superintendent Michael Johndrow.
Numerous staff persons from the architects, the
Hillier Group, and the Turner Company, the construction managers,
will be present to answer contractors’ questions.
Groundbreaking will be held in a few weeks.
“Bids will be opened on May 17 at 3:30 p.m., before
the board meeting which will be held later that evening,” Johndrow
said.
Awarding of bids will be made on May 24, he said.
Construction is expected to begin immediately.
In other board business, the board accepted the
resignation of Sullivan West at Jeffersonville elementary school
principal James Evans effective April 27.
“Mr. Evans decided that the job entailed a little
too much,” Johndrow said. Evans had retired last year from a school
in New Jersey before coming here.
Former Jeffersonville-Youngsville superintendent
Albert Larson will serve as interim principal in the elementary
school.
The board unanimously approved the $1,080,062 BOCES
administration budget for next year. They also cast district votes
in county-wide voting to approve three-year terms on the BOCES board
for Herbert Bauernfeind, Eugene Ganz and Bernard Olff.
