JOSEPH ABEL

JEFFERSONVILLE — Joseph “Jess” Abel of Jeffersonville, retired owner and operator of the Jeffersonville Pharmacy for 18 years, and a longtime area resident, died Saturday, April 28, 2001, at Robert Packard Hospital in Sayre, PA. He was 81.

Son of Hyman and Rose Roth Abel, he was born November 19, 1919 in the Bronx.

He was a member and past president of the Jeffersonville Synagogue; a member of the Sullivan County BOCES board for 35 years; a Town of Callicoon historian; a member of the Jeffersonville Ambulance Corps for 35 years; and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Free and Accepted Masons.

Survivors include his wife, Esther Roth Abel at home; a son, Bernard of Monticello; two daughters, Ruth Lee Turk of Monticello and Barbara of Chicago, IL; a sister, Harriet Lapidus of East Meadow; and a granddaughter, Beth Victoria Turk.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Marianne S.

Services were held at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home in Monticello. Rabbi Irwin Tanenbaum officiated. Burial was in the Jeffersonville Synagogue Cemetery in Youngsville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Grover Hermann Hospital in Callicoon.

CHARLES JOHN BARBUTI, SR.

LIBERTY — Charles John Barbuti, Sr. of Liberty, founder of Barbuti Furniture Store and longtime Liberty resident, died Saturday, April 28, 2001. He was 86.

Son of the late Charles and Marion “Mae” Cusick Barbuti, he was born December 21, 1914 in Brooklyn.

He was a member of the old Town of Liberty baseball team; was a coach in the Liberty PAL Little League; was an organizer of the Liberty Softball League and the Sullivan County Seniors softball team; a 20-year elected councilman for the Town of Liberty Town Board; a former Village of Liberty Board Trustee and a longtime member of the Town of Liberty Democratic Club; served as vice president of the St. Paul’s Senior Citizens and was a member of the “Over the Hill” coffee gang.

Survivors include his wife, Muriel Hansen Barbuti at home; three sons, James of Deland, FL, Thomas and wife Kathy of Baltimore, MD and Charles, Jr. and wife Terri of Liberty; a brother, George of Lake Worth, FL; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Dorothy.

Services were held at the Harris Funeral Home in Liberty. Monsignor Edward Straub officiated. Burial was in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Liberty.

CLARENCE BLAUT, SR.

BARRYVILLE — Clarence “Sailor” Blaut, Sr. of Barryville, a retired carpenter with the United Brotherhood of Carpenters Local No. 15 in Hackensack, NJ, and a 20-year area resident, died Saturday, April 28, 2001 at Hackensack Medical Center. He was 80.

Son of the late Karl and Margaret Karlos Blaut, he was born March 19, 1921 in Bernwood.

He was a member of St. Anthony’s Church in Yulan; was an Army veteran of World War II, receiving the Bronze Star; and was a member of the 83rd Chemical Motor Batt that meets several times each year.

Survivors include his wife, Catherine Dorothy Amrine Blaut at home; three sons, Clarence, Jr. and Barry, both of Barryville and Dale of Amarillo, TX; a sister, Helen Pitchetto of East Rutherford, NJ; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, Kim.

Services were held at St. Anthony’s Church in Yulan. The Rev. Evan Greco officiated. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

DAVID KARL CROUTHAMEL

PAUPACK — David Karl Crouthamel of Paupack, a retired teacher and administrator for Wallenpaupack Area School District, died Thursday, April 19, 2001 at home. He was 60.

Son of the late Jacob Karl and Myra J. Allen Crouthamel, he was born in Wilmington, DE.

He was a graduate of Lower Merion Senior High School and Penn State University. He received a Master of Science degree from University of PA and received a Professional Certification from the Commonwealth of PA for general industrial arts in 1966 and was a sergeant in the Air Force. He was the author of  “Guidelines for Elementary Industrial Arts;” developed and taught technical drafting programs at WAHS from 1975 to 1980; was assistant principal from 1980 to 1982 and returned to teaching. He was district director of Adult and Community Education from 1976 until retirement. He was corporation president of Big Pine Gift Shop, a family-owned business from 1956 to1980; a member of the Lake Wallenpaupack Association board of directors; Millbrook Association board of directors; National Ski Patrol Eastern PA Junior Advisor; patrol director at Tanglwood Ski Area; Eastern Division USA Staff; and Leadership Appointment No. 2014.

In February 2001 he received the National Ski patrol System Distinguished Service Award and also received the 2001 C. Jason Currier Dedicated Patroller Award of Tanglwood Ski Patrol; was Paupack Fish & Game Club president; Palmyra Township Pike County Park & Recreation chairman; member of the Paupack United Methodist Church board and the Penn State Alumni board Wayne-Pike Chapter. He was a member of the Paupack United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, S. Lynn Prizer Crouthamel; three sons, Allen David of Paupack; Andrew Karl of Paupack and Mark Stanley of Tafton; a daughter, Amy Lynn Wacker of Hawley; seven grandchildren, Alexandria, Olivia, Riley Lynne and Gabriel Crouthamel and David, Jacob and Aleaha Wacker.

A memorial service was held in the Paupack United Methodist Church. The Rev Martin L. Cox, Jr., pastor of Hawley United Methodist Church officiated. Cremation took place at the H.G. Smith Crematory in Stroudsburg. Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery in Paupack.

WILLIAM J. DANIELS

HONESDALE — William J. Daniels of Honesdale, a former truck driver for Herzog Trucking in Honesdale and then Jervic Trucking, a lifelong area resident, died Sunday, April 22, 2001 at home. He was 64.

Son of John Daniels of Beach Lake and the late Hazel “Happy” Bayly Daniels, he was born January 21, 1937 in Honesdale.

He served with the 109th Infantry of the National Guard for five years during peacetime.

Survivors include his wife, Judith Eschenbach Daniels at home; his father; two sons, Kevin Bibalo of Bethany and Michael Bibalo of Groton, CT; four daughters, Rosemary of Greensboro, Merrilee DeSimone and Bonnie, both of Old Forge and Sherry DeLong of New London, CT.; a brother, Richard and wife Mary of Honesdale; two sisters, Judy of Bradenton, FL and Sharon Bayly of Honesdale; eight grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Marissa DeSimone.

Services were held at the Hessling Funeral Home in Honesdale. His son, K. Michael Bibalo, officiated. Burial was in the Indian Orchard Cemetery, Texas Township.

THOMAS J. DELANEY

MALVERN — Thomas J. Delaney, a computer project manager for WaWa, Inc for many years and most recently for Sermatech, died at home following a lengthy illness. He was 53.

Son of Edward and Jane McHale Delaney, he was born in Richmond Virginia and attended Monsignor Bonner High School in Drexel Hill, PA. Later he attended St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia.

Survivors include his wife, Kate; a daughter, Alison; a son, Matthew, all of Malvern; his mother; two sisters, Anne of Hawley and Maureen Wallace of West Chester, NY, three brothers, Kevin of West Chester, Eddie of Richomond, IN and Dick of Port Washiongton, NY; many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Thursday, May 3 at the Church of the Loving Shepherd, 1066 South New Street, West Chester, PA. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Queen of Peach Roman Catholic Church, Hawley, PA on Friday, May 4, at 10:00 a.m. Burialwill take place following the service at Queen of Peace Cemetery.

ROSINA C. DEL GUIDICE

MONTICELLO — Rosina C. Del Guidice of Monticello, a retired dressmaker, died Tuesday, April 24, 2001. She was 81.

Daughter of the late Joseph and Vincenza Maggio Genna, she was born November 10, 1919 in New York City.

Survivors include a son, Michael J. and wife Jayne of Milan; Michael’s first wife, Janice; a daughter, Frieda Aber and husband Charles of Monticello; a brother, Anthony Genna of Holbrook; six grandchildren, Suzanne, Christopher, Michael, Michele, Melissa and Matthew; seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. George’s R.C. Church in Jeffersonville. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Youngsville.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550.

CHARLES J. DUTKIEWICZ

LIBERTY — Charles J. Dutkiewicz of Liberty, an electronic repairman known as “Video Dr.” and a 20- year area resident, died Thursday, April 26, 2001 at Community General Hospital in Harris after a long illness. He was 35.

Son of Jean Hartman and the late Charles Dutkiewicz, he was born June 9, 1965 in Smithtown.

Survivors include his mother, Jean Hartman and husband Fred of North Branch; his wife, Sharlene Rand Dutkiewicz of Liberty; three sons, Joseph, Brandon and Brian, all of Liberty; a daughter, Christina of Liberty; a step-daughter, Raven Gross of Liberty; a brother, Robert Gross of Callicoon; a sister, Linda Van Loan of Middletown; nieces and nephews.

Services were held at Ramsay’s Funeral Home in Liberty. Cremation was at the convenience of the family at Cedar Hill Crematory in Newburgh.

HELEN C. SERGEANT

ELDRED — Helen C. Sergeant of Eldred, a registered nurse and a lifelong area resident, died Saturday, April 14, 2001 at Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis. She was 80.

Daughter of the late Edward and Kathryn Livingston Kuen, she was born April 20, 1920 in Shohola. She was the widow of B. Grant Sergeant.

An Army veteran of World War II she was an RN serving as a Lieutenant in the Philippines.

Survivors include two daughters, Sandra McBride and husband William and Laura Batzel and husband Gary, all of Eldred; two sisters, Clareta Sergeant of Woodhaven, NY and Arlene Kuen of Barryville; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Dorothy Smith and Hazel Anastasia; and a brother, Arthur Kuen.

Services were held at the Gray-Rasmussen Funeral Home in Barryville. Pastor Linda Bohs officiated. Burial was at Montoza Cemetery in Eldred.
