Trailer destroyed by fire

By JILL PADUA

NARROWSBURG — A Sunday afternoon fire on Route 97 north of Narrowsburg destroyed the home of John Pisanelli.

Pisanelli and Bill Kestler were sitting behind the home having a glass of orange juice, watching some papers burn in the burn barrel when a breeze sent a spark under the old back porch of the dwelling. The spark landed on leaves under the porch and ignited immediately. The resultant blaze then engulfed the porch. Pisanelli said the trailer was engulfed by the time the fire departments arrived. Firefighters were unable to save the structure.

The burn barrel was surrounded by stone, covered with a screen and a garden hose was nearby, but the fire spread too quickly to stop.

Kestler called 911, then the two moved their cars away from the scene.

Area fire departments responding included Narrowsburg, Lava, Cochecton, Lake Huntington and Yulan, with Beach Lake and Jeffersonville on standby.
