Scouting the watershed

SHOHOLA — Watershed specialist Sally Jones of the Pike County Conservation District (PCCD) gages the water’s oxygen content at Shohola Falls with sisters Ashlee and Alexis Herzek, during Watershed Snapshot 2001.

The girls took part in the snapshot as part of their first-year patch project for Girl Scouts.

The educational afternoon, held on Earth Day, was sponsored by the Shohola Watershed Conservancy (SWC) and the PCCD as part of a nine-day, statewide event.

Participants at Shohola Falls gave the waterway a “good to excellent visual assessment.”

Watershed Snapshot 2001 continues through April 29. Joe Zenes, of the SWC, said interested groups may contact him at 570/685-2835 for assistance in conducting their own snapshot.
