Joy ride ends in arrest

By TOM KANE

NARROWSBURG — Two young motorcyclists who were on a 125 m.p.h. joy ride on Route 97 south of Narrowsburg on Sunday afternoon, April 22, were apprehended by state police in the hamlet of Narrowsburg after a roundabout chase through the streets of the hamlet.

“The two of them took the road up Irish Hill,” said Trooper Barry Falk. They didn’t realize that it was a dead end. Trooper Falk waited for them at the bottom of the hill and arrested them.

David Drew, Jr., 19, and Gerald O’Brien, 18, of Warwick, were issued nine tickets and arraigned before Town of Tusten Justice Ralph Huebner.

“They were operating the vehicle only with a learner’s permit,” Falk said. One of the youths also was in possession of marijuana, he said.

The two were sent to Sullivan County Jail with a bail set at $1500 each. They were released Monday after bail was posted.

“They hit 125 m.p.h.,” Falk said, “when they passed me near Grassy Swamp Road.”
