Pecks wins the big apple

CALLICOON — Pecks Market in Callicoon was among the winners of the Fall 2000 National Apple Month retail-display contest announced in February, bringing a close to last year's national apple promotion.

More than 900 retailers vied for the title of the nation's top apple retailer during the 2000 promotion, which ran from September through November. Entrants competed for awards by promoting and merchandising apples through creative apple displays.

Contestants were grouped according to geographic location and store size. Entries were judged on the volume and variety of fresh apples displayed, the volume and variety of processed apple, products as well as grocery tie-in-products displayed and the display's creativity and shopability.

Pecks Market was one of the winners for supermarkets in the Eastern U.S. with 10 or fewer registers. The contest was sponsored by the National Apple Month Program.
