SUSAN CRUMP

HAWLEY — Susan Crump, formerly of Hawley, a 60-year Hawley resident, and a former worker at Sherman Underwear Mill, died Thursday, March 8, 2001 at the Jewish Home of Eastern, PA in Scranton. She was 87.

Daughter of the late Andrew and Elizabeth Stodolny Matushak, she was born April 9, 1913 in Olyphant. She was the widow of John H. Crump.

She was a former member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hawley and was a Past Matron of the Eastern Star, a member of Rebecca Lodge, The Grange, Daughters of America and the Willing Workers in her church.

Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Robbins of Blakely and Linda Gomar of Waverly; a son, John J. of Alden, PA; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elizabeth Hanna of Scranton and Lena Dachik of Charlottesville, FL; nieces and nephews.

Memorial services were held at John F. Glinsky Funeral Home in Throop. The Rev. Ernest B. Drost and Rev. Norman Lawrence officiated. Burial was private at Green Gates Cemetery in Palmyra.

MARTHA ANN De PACE

MONTICELLO — Martha Ann De Pace of Monticello, operator with her husband of Bob’s Bar on Cimarron Road in Monticello and a lifelong area resident, died Friday, March 9, 2001 at home. She was 74.

Daughter of the late Lloyd and Mary King Bates, she was born March 31, 1926 in Monticello. She was the widow of Jerry De Pace.

Survivors include a son, Dr. Dennis M. of Philadelphia, PA; two daughters, Jerri-Lynn Mitchell and husband Darryl “Butch” of Rock Hill and Mary Ellen Lange and husband Anthony of Winter Park, FL; a sister, Helen Fero and husband Dan of Monticello; a special niece, Franci Soloman; three grandsons; two granddaughters; five great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services were held at Ramsay’s Funeral Home in Monticello. Cremation was private at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550.

THOMAS WILLARD DeSANTIS

NARROWSBURG — Thomas Willard DeSantis of Narrowsburg, a 1984 retired industrial arts teacher at Narrowsburg Central School, as well as a master electrician and a retired maintenance supervisor for Lander’s River Trips, a 30-year area resident, died Sunday, March 18, 2001 at home. He was 74.

Son of Samuel and Louise Ingalls DeSantis, he was born October 31, 1926 in Oswego. He was the widower of Barbara Scruton DeSantis.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in World War II. He was a member of the VFW, Tusten-Highland Post; the American Legion Post #1363 in Eldred; and a former member of the Tusten Planning Board and the Tusten Zoning Board. He was also an avid woodworker.

Survivors include two daughters, Jennifer Kopcho and husband Martin of Candor and Laurie Sages and husband Robert of Dacula, GA; three sisters, Olive Fultz and husband Ted, Agnes McGann and Adelle DeSantis, all of Oswego; three grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Services were held at Rasmussen Sons Funeral Home in Narrowsburg. The Rev. William Lewis officiated. Burial was in Oswego Town Rural Cemetery in Oswego.

JOHN P. ELWOOD

MONTICELLO — John P. Elwood of Monticello, a 29-year area resident and a former heavy equipment operator, died Sunday, March 11, 2001 at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. He was 82.

Son of the late William T. and Vida Krantz Elwood, he was born February 9, 1919 in Rockland. He was the widower of Ellen Lasher Elwood.

He was a graduate of Delaware Academy and Delhi Tech.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria Grimes Elwood at home; four sons, Walter of Otiskany Falls, David of Connecticut, George of Albany and Donald of Monticello; a step-daughter, LaTaisha Robinson; four granddaughters; a brother, Jay Paul of Albany GA; and a sister, Margaret Slaghuis of Michigan.

Services were held at the MacArthur Funeral Home in Delhi. Diane Wickham, lay preacher, officiated. Burial will be made in the Woodland Cemetery in Delhi in the spring.

FRANCIS D. McCORMICK

HONESDALE — Francis D. McCormick of Honesdale, a retired employee in the plumbing and heating department with the former Murray Company in Honesdale, died Thursday, March 15, 2001 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale. He was 89.

Son of the late James W. and Margaret Fives McCormick, he was born February 12, 1912 in Honesdale. He was the widower of Kathryn Kane and Joan Pepsin Gallick.

He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale and a member of the Knights of Columbus of Honesdale Council #363 and Texas #4 Fire Company in Honesdale.

Survivors include a son, Daniel of Lewisburg; a step-son, Robert Gallick of Sunset Beach, NC; three daughters, Mary Marshall of Emmaus, Joanne Dirlam of Honesdale and Maureen Haumesser of Williamsville, NY; three step-daughters, Eileen Earley of Port St. Lucy, FL, Janice Earley of Fogelsville, PA, and Ann Rowe of Califon, NJ; three brothers, James of Honesdale, Michael of Ft. Washington, PA and Paul of Sidney, NY; two sisters, Rita Burkavage of Honesdale and Margaret O’Hara of Pleasant Mount; 18 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two sons, Thomas and Joseph; a daughter, Patricia; a brother, Benedict; and a great-granddaughter, Joie Collins.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered in St. John the Evangelist Church in Honesdale. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Northeast PA, 1541 Alta Drive, Whitehall, PA or to the charity of one’s choice.

WINIFRED LUCHS MULLALLY

JEFFERSONVILLE — Winifred Luchs Mullally, a third generation resident of Jeffersonville and a retired teacher of the Jeffersonville-Youngsville Central School, died Monday, March 12, 2001 at the Horton Medical Center in Middletown. She was 84.

She was the daughter of the late Arthur and Mary Luchs. She was the widow of Vincent Joseph Mullally.

She graduated from New Paltz Normal School and received her Master’s degree at New York University and Columbia. At New Paltz she was a member of Theta Phi Sorority and the Lantern Night Honorary Society, captain of the women’s basketball team and founder of the equestrian club. In 1937 she began her teaching career in Youngsville and taught various subjects and grade levels in Liberty and Jeffersonville until her retirement in 1979. She was a charter member and past president of the Jeffersonville First Aid Ambulance Corps; an organizer and charter member of the H. Russell Kenyon Auxiliary No. 5808, Veterans of Foreign Wars in Callicoon; and a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Jeffersonville. At one time she played the French horn with the Callicoon Center Band.

Services were held at the First Presbyterian Church in Jeffersonville. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.

INGRID PFUND NELL

HONESDALE — Ingrid Pfund Nell of Honesdale, died Friday, March 9, 2001 at home. She was 63.

Daughter of the late Robert and Josepha “Trudy” Grzyb Pfund she was born in Dutzon-Mecklburg, Germany. She was the widow of Robert Nell.

Survivors include a son, Robert M. of Honesdale; three brothers, Roland Pfund of Honesdale, Bernhard and Robert Pfund, both of Bethany; nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, Michael Jay; and a sister, Helga Pfund.

Cremation took place at the Maple Hill at Salem Crematory in Archbald. A memorial service was held in the lower hall of St. Bernard’s R.C. Church in Beach Lake. Burial will take place in the spring in the Glen Dyberry Cemetery in Honesdale.

SOPHIE TRUGLIO

YULAN — Sophie Truglio of Yulan, a retired saleswoman at Macy’s Department Store in New York City, and a 28-year area resident, died Thursday, March 15, 2001 at Community General Hospital in Harris. She was 85.

Daughter of Maxim and Tatiana Kowalski Woytowich, she was born September 29, 1915 in Pennsylvania.

She was the widow of Joseph Truglio.

She was a member of the Eastern Star of Port Jervis and St. Anthony’s R.C. Church in Yulan.

Survivors include a son, John of Barryville; a sister, Mary Kollar of Queens; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Woytowich of Florida; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a niece, Stephanie Kollar.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Anthony’s R.C. Church in Yulan. The Rev. Evan Greco officiated. Burial was in St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Eldred.

MARGARET “ETTA” TUBBS

OBERNBURG — Margaret “Etta” Tubbs of Obernburg, a retired hotel manager and a 15-year area resident, died Sunday, March 11, 2001 at the Roscoe Community Nursing Home in Roscoe. She was 93.

Daughter of the late John and Catherine Weiss Schwartz, she was born May 23, 1907 in West New York, NJ. She was the widow of Elmer Tubbs.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Church and its Rosary Society, both in Obernburg.

Survivors include nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered in St. Mary’s Church in Obernburg. The Rev. Ignatius Smith officiated. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Obernburg.
